Hazel I. Comisky, 1918-2008
   Hazel I. Comiskey, 89, of Virginia, and formerly of Ashland and Tallula, died Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   She was born Feb. 25, 1918 in Ashland, the daughter of William "Bill" and Maude Jenkins Pettit. She married Patrick F. "Pat" Comiskey and he preceded in death in 1981.
   She is survived by one son, Steve of Virginia; one daughter, Virginia "Jenny" (husband, Lowell) Bright of Ashland; four grandchildren, Tara (husband, Rodney) Davis of Virginia, Patricia (husband, Rick) Miller and Allen (wife, Melissa) Bright, both of Ashland, and Jennifer Illias of Chatham; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer (surviving wife, Emma Lou of Petersburg) Pettit and Kenny (surviving wife, Helen of Tallula) Pettit and one sister, Helen Sherren.
   Mrs. Comiskey worked in the housekeeping department at Memorial Medical Center of Springfield for 10 years. She was a long time homemaker and surrogate caring Mom for many Ashland area children.
   Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Garner Chapel Cemetery, north of Philadelphia. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland. Condolences may be left at www.buchanancody.com.

John Robert "Johnny Bob" Comiskey, 1964-2006, Ashland
   John Robert "Johnny Bob" Comiskey, 41, of Ashland, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   He was born Dec. 13, 1964, in Beardstown, the son of John and Betty Bottoms Comiskey.
   He is survived by his stepfather, Jerry Farmer, of Ashland; his companion, Kathy Hock of Ashland; one brother, Terry "Buck" Comiskey of Chandlerville, one half brother, Charles "Chuck" Treadway of Beardstown; two half sisters, Bonnie Leverton and Barb Bradley, both of Beardstown; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, Betty Farmer; and two half brothers, Donny Treadway and Billy Joe Treadway.
   Mr. Comiskey was the productions manager at Fulton Metal Works in Ashland were [where] he has been employed for 20 years. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and former member of the Ashland Jaycees.
Graveside memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Waverly East Cemetery in Waverly. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Ashland.    Levi Conover, died in Virginia, Illinois, June 25, age 72 years 4 months 11 days. He married Elizabeth Petefish, November 1836, she died August 1837. He then married Phebe Rosenberger.

CONNER, Beatrice Fae "Betty", March 12, 1927-November 5, 2016
   Beatrice Fae “Betty” Conner, 89, of Ashland, IL passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 5, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.
   She was born March 12, 1927, the daughter of Thomas and Dorothy Mae (Bell)Craddock, in rural Woodson. She married James B. “Jack” Conner on Dec. 17, 1945 and he preceded her in death on January 2, 1995.
   Betty is survived by her son, Bryant (Carrie) Conner of Ashland; stepson, Gerald (Nancy) Conner of The Villages, Florida; three sisters, Martha McMillan of Dekalb, Jean (Richard) Monroe of Jacksonville, and June (Nick) Gowin of Jacksonville; one brother, Jim Craddock of Jacksonville; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepdaughter, Patsy Fisher; five sisters, Floreca Stewart, Dorothy Osborne, Catherine Gotschall, Mary Ray, and Linda Hayes; and one brother, Tom Craddock.
   Betty was a self-employed beautician in Ashland for more than 30 years, a loving mother and grandmother, and active volunteer in the community. She was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan and followed football and baseball, enjoyed playing cards with her friends, cooking and holding large family dinners.
   Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Ashland with burial at Pleasant Plains Cemetery in Pleasant Plains. The family will meet friends from 4:30 to 6:30 pm Tuesday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland.    James A. Cook Sr., 79, of Jacksonville, IL and formerly of Chandlerville, IL died Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.
   He was born February 17, 1932 in Chandlerville; the son of Clifford J. Sr. and Matilda Ann Williams Cook. He married Lola J. Griffith on May 4, 1952 at the Lake Fork Christian Church near Springfield, IL and she survives.
   He is survived by Timothy Owen Cook (wife, Deborah) of Rolla, MO; J. Allan Cook Jr. (wife, Janie) of South Jacksonville, and Abby Jo Vinyard (fiancé, Ron Luebbert) of Westphalia, MO; six grandchildren, Mary Allana Vinyard of Mexico, MO, Heather Cook of Jacksonville, Misty Dawn Rowe (husband, Richard IV) of Jacksonville, Justin Wade Cook (wife, Jana) of Rolla, MO, Audrey Bailey (husband, Toby) of Columbia, MO, and Amber Wilson (husband, Jared) of McKinney, TX; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Bill Cook (wife, Marjorie) of Chandlerville; a sister, Mary Ann Siltman of Roseville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Woodrow Cook, Anita Cook, Dorothy Carpenter, Daniel Cook, James Joseph Cook, and Clifford Cook.
   A 1950 graduate of Chandlerville High School, Jim attended Lincoln Christian College for 5 years, Central Christian College for 2 years, and served 6 years with the Illinois National Guard. He began his long and passionate ministerial career by serving pastorates in Browning, IL, Pigott, AR, Atlanta and Leonard, MO, Prescott, AZ, Ashland, IL, St. Joseph, MI, and then worked in the publishing department at Lincoln Christian College and an interim pastorate in Havana, IL. He returned to full time pastoral care at Ashland, IL, Vandalia, MO, Panama City, FL, Beardstown, IL, Petersburg, IL, and Aberdeen, MS prior to retiring in Portland, MO where he provided pulpit supply for Pilot Grove, High Hill, and Gasconade, MO churches. In addition, Jim conducted numerous evangelistic crusades and revival meetings throughout the United States. While in Mississippi, he provided leadership for the Christian State Convention.
   Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 7, 2011 at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Chandlerville Cemetery.    James R. "Jim" Cook, 69, of Virginia, IL and formerly of Chandlerville, IL died Saturday evening, April 18, 2009 at his residence.
   He was born June 18, 1939 in Chandlerville, the son of Joseph Russell "Cookie" and May Hawkins Cook.
   He is survived by his companion and former wife, Gladys Miller of Virginia; three daughters, Michelle Tufenkjian (husband, Steven) of Hoffman Estates, Janelle Dowd (husband, Ryan) of Chatham, and Trisha Cook-Law (husband, Jamie) of Auburn; two step children, Atonia Robinson (husband, Rick) of Virginia and Steve Anderson (wife, Dorothy) of Virginia; six grandchildren, Austin Morrissey, Zachary and Jacob Tufenkjian, Allie Barnes, Jocelyn Law, and Quinn Dowd; several step grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Dillard (husband, Phillip) of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joseph Cook.
   Mr. Cook served with the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. He then worked as a utilities lineman, as a technician for Cass Telephone, and as a truck driver. Most recently he was employed with Snyder Logging. He enjoyed working and was uncomfortable with idle time. He was a member of the Chandlerville American Legion and was a loving father and grandfather who will be sadly missed.
   Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Joseph Russell 'Cookie' Cook, 1913-2003, Chandlerville
   Joseph Russell "Cookie" Cook, 89, of Chandlerville, died Thursday afternoon, June 12, 2003, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
   He was born Dec. 1, 1913, in Cass County, the son of Ralph and Hilma Turner Cook. He married May Hawkins on Dec. 19, 1935, in Pekin, and she preceded him in death June 11, 1996.
   He is survived by one son, Jim of Chandlerville; one daughter, Marilyn (husband, Phil) Dillard of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Rocky Snyder of Chandlerville, Tracy Taylor of Virginia, Mandy Buckman of Ashland, Lori Cook of Virginia, Michell Tufenkjian of Hoffman Estates, Janelle Sapp of Williamsville and Trisha Cook of Springfield; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Reed and Annabelle Cloninger, both of Chandlerville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph in 1992.
   Mr. Cook was engaged in farming prior to working with the Chicago, Illinois & Midland Railroad. He later worked for Allis-Chalmers of Springfield and the Cass County Telephone and Cable TV Company. He retired from the City of Virginia after several years with the Street Department. He was a member of the former Chandlerville Baptist Church.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Lintner-Buchanan Funeral Home in Chandlerville, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.    Lola J. Cook, 84, of Westphalia, MO and formerly of Jacksonville and Chandlerville, IL passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016, at Westphalia Hills in Westphalia, MO.
   She was born August 26, 1931 in Fandon, IL, the daughter of Alva Finis and Velma Frances Hocker Griffith. She married James A. Cook Sr. on May 4, 1952 at South Fork Christian Church in rural Springfield, IL and he preceded her in death on January 4, 2012.
   She is survived by three children, Timothy Owen Cook (wife, Deborah) of Rolla, MO, J. Allan Cook Jr.(wife, Jane) of South Jacksonville, and Abby Jo Vinyard (fiancé, Ron Luebbert) of Westphalia, MO; six grandchildren, Mary Allana Vinyard of Columbia, MO, Heather Cook and Misty Dawn Rowe (husband, Richard IV), all of Jacksonville, Justin Cook (wife, Jana) of Rolla, MO, Audrey Bailey (husband, Toby) of Columbia, MO, and Amber Wilson (husband, Jerid) of Dry Ridge, KY; 15 grandchildren; a great great grandchild; her beloved sister, Ella Louise Parkins of rural Macomb; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
   Lola was employed by GTE Telephone Company as an operator, supervisor, and trainer in Jacksonville, Macomb, and Lincoln, IL. She was an accomplished organist who assisted her husband in his many ministries and volunteered her time more recently as the organist for services at the Passavant Hospital Chapel. A talented painter, Lola provided hand painted scenes for many church baptistries. She also enjoyed many art forms including interior decorating and ceramics, which she fired in her own kiln. An avid reader, Lola enjoyed adding to her book collection and, as a life-long Chicago Cubs fan, collecting Cubs memorabilia.
   Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Friday, August 19, 2016, at the First Christian Church in South Jacksonville with burial at Chandlerville Cemetery in Chandlerville. The family will meet friends at the church from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday. Memorial gifts are suggested to the First Christian Church.     Mrs. Catherine Cooper died the 24th at her residence. She was widow of Alexander Cooper who died eighteen years ago. She was 67 and death was due to cancer. She leaves a son, George and daughter, Mary Quigg of Kansas.

COOPER, Charles - Central Beardstown, Nov. 11, 1869
   Charles Cooper died of lockjaw at his residence Saturday. He was a Cass county resident 35 years and a miller in Arenzville for 20 years.

   Loretta A. Copley, 84, of Ashland, IL died Sunday, August 3, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield, IL.
   She was born October 23, 1929 in San Benito, TX, the daughter of Henry Francis and Mary Louise Phillip Hibbs. She married Charles A. Copley on June 5, 1950 at St. Augustine Church in Ashland and he survives.
   She is also survived by four children, Patricia Mutchler (husband, Jack) of Springfield, Charles J. Copley (wife, Ramona) of Ashland, Joseph Copley (wife, Sandra) of Santa Barbara, CA, and Robert Copley (wife, Christina) of Quincy; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two siblings, Sister Henrietta C.S.J. of La Grange Park and Edwin Paul Hibbs (wife, Judy) of Beggs, OK; and several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Mary Frances Barnett, Jimmy Hibbs, Gertrude Salowetz, and Robert George Hibbs.
   Mrs. Copley was a graduate of Ashland High School and a member of St. Augustine Parish. She was a devoted homemaker and mother. She was always willing to assist her friends and neighbors as well as volunteering for worthy church and community events.
   A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am Friday, August 8, 2014, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Ashland with burial at St. Augustine Cemetery, west of Ashland. The family will meet friends at the church from 10:00 am Friday until the time of services. Memorial gifts are suggested to St. John’s Hospice.    Helen Judith "Judy" Cosner, 79, of Ashland, IL passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011 at St. John's Hospice in Springfield, IL.
   She was born December 29, 1931 in Tallula, IL; the daughter of Herschel Greene and Virginia Mary Sowers Wiggins. She married Jack Wankel in 1950 and later Thomas A. Cosner Jr. in 1977 and he preceded her in death on January 8, 2008.
   She is survived by a son, Gerald A. Wankel (wife, Denise) of Chandlerville; two daughters, Virginia Kay DeGroot (husband, Dennis) of Ashland and Patricia S. Hannel (companion, Joe Lowder) of Springfield; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several step children, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Patricia A. Wiggins Nandasher.
   Mrs. Cosner was a 1939 graduate of Tallula High School. She worked all of her life and retired in 2002 from Newell Insurance Agency in Ashland after 41 years. She was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church, the Jenny James Circle, and United Methodist Women (who awarded her the honor pin for outstanding service in 2002). She was devoted to helping her church, her family, and her friends.
   Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the Ashland United Methodist Church with burial in Ashland Cemetery.
