COLLINS, Mary (Cranor) - Virginia Enquirer, February 25, 1888, p.1, c.6 - Submitted by Edna McPherson
Come To Rest
Many people of Cass county regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Mary Collins, which sad event occurred on Friday, February 17, at 8 o'clock, at her son-in-law's, Ob. Kenny's, on Sangamon Bottom. She sleeps beside her husband, Henry S. Collins, who was buried thirty years ago in the Campbell cemetery. She leaves seven children; four sons, John Collins, Joseph, Henry and Greenberry and three daughters, Mrs. O. Kinney, of this county, Mrs. Hess, of Missouri, and Mrs. John Carr, of Henrietta, Nebraska. She has nearly 60 grand-children and several great-grand-children. Mrs. Collins was married to H. S. Collins in Maryland. They emigrated to Illinois in 1830, and she was one of the oldest persons in this county. She has been a woman of strong constitution; but age will tell on all as sure as the running down of a clock or the setting of the sun. She was nearly 90 years old. Her funeral was preached at the residence on last Sabbath, by Rev. Elder, of Virginia. After the services her body was borne to the Campbell cemetery, where the relatives and friends looked upon her for the last time; and the body was then consigned to the grave. Thus ends the chapter in the life of Grandma Collins.
She sleeps silent beneath the sod,
She is safe; her trust was in God.
A Friend.
