   A son of William Anderson was killed near Arenzville Saturday night last by being thrown by a horse he was riding.

   The Rev. Alf E. Anderson, 95, of Ashland, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield.
   He was born Jan. 7, 1915, in Chicago, the son of Arnt and Justine Johansen Anderson. He married Betty Parkes on Aug. 19, 1951, in Champaign, and she survives.
   He is also survived by a son, Roger Anderson (wife, Martha) of Pleasant Plains, two daughters, Kathryn Anderson of Rushville and Rev. Mary Ellen Sharp (husband, Jeff) of Springfield; three grandchildren, Ryan Anderson (wife, Carrie) of Jacksonville, Glen Anderson of Pleasant Plains and Emily Sharp of Springfield; a great-grandchild, Esme Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite Stenseng; and a brother, Roy A. Anderson.
   The Rev. Anderson received a ThB degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago in 1942, a BA degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in 1944 and a BD degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1945. He was ordained to Christian ministry on April 28, 1943. He pastored churches in Wisconsin and Illinois including Berea Christian Church, south of Prentice, First Baptist Church of Rosewood Heights and First Baptist Church of Ashland.
   He owned and operated Anderson Jewelry and Fine Watch Repair in Ashland from 1955-1986. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ashland. An accomplished and gifted pianist, Alf authored many articles for the Ashland Sentinel, enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics and faithfully exercised at Fit Club in Springfield for many years.
   Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Ashland with the Rev. Wayne Mollohan officiating. Burial will follow at Farmington Cemetery in Farmingdale. The family will meet friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorial gifts are suggested to First Baptist Church of Ashland. Doug N. Anderson, 1963-2012
   Doug N. Anderson, 49, of Virginia, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Mo.
   He was born March 1, 1963, in Xenia, Ohio, the son of Robert W. and Rosemary J. Bethel Anderson.
   He is survived by a son, Cole Anderson of Virginia; a sister, Audrey Cox (husband, David) of rural Virginia; a brother, Wyatt Anderson (wife, Karen) of Chandlerville; a niece; and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
   Mr. Anderson was a 1981 graduate of Virginia High School. He owned and operated the South Side Tavern in Virginia twice over a 10-year period and later was an engineer for the BNSF Railroad in Beardstown. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia. Doug enjoyed entertaining friends, riding motorcycles, and navigating the Illinois River in his boats. He was a seasoned gardener and accomplished cook.
   Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia where the family will meet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services.    Ethel L. Anderson, 84, of Virginia and formerly of Hagener Township, died Friday, June 24, 2011 at her home. She was born February 1, 1927 in Schuyler County, the daughter of Albert T. and Leura Eagle Walton. She married Robert M. Anderson on February 12, 1944 in Beardstown in he preceded her in death on October 10, 2006. Surviving are two daughters Janice Kruse of Taylorville and Kay (husband Jim) Wagstaff of Murrayville; one grandson Robert (wife Kim) Kruse of Taylorville; one great granddaughter Holly Kruse and two step-great grandsons Jordan and Nick Foraker; a brother Albert (wife Donna Jean) Walton of Peoria; and two sisters Anna (husband Wayne) Lowe of Virginia and Betta Browning of Perry. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and several brothers and sisters. Ethel attended Cass County Schools. She was a homemaker and also loved sewing. She was of the Christian faith. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Monday, June 27, 2011 at Beardstown City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials have been suggested to Bread of Love.    Funeral services for Eunice Anderson, 11 year old Arenzville girl who died of polio at Our Saviour's hospital, Jacksonville, on Thursday morning, where held at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Eunice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson of near Arenzville was the second polio victim in Arenzville within a four day period. Mrs. George Manker, mother of four children died on Sunday, January 4. Funeral services for Eunice were held at the Arenzville Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. G.H. Beiderwelden in charge.

James R. "Jimmy" Anderson, 57, of Beardstown, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 8, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   He was born March 1, 1949, in Beardstown, the son of Ralph and Evelyn Brown Anderson.
   He is survived by his mother of Beardstown; one son, Shane, of Quincy; companion, Nancy Spears of Beardstown; five step-sons, Brad (wife, Linda), John (wife, Becky), Steve and Mark (wife, Debbie) Spears, all of Beardstown, and Kevin Stanberry of Palmyra, Mo.; four step-daughters, Cathy (husband, Irv) McVey of Abingdon, Shelly Kaden of Palmyra, Mo., Amber Stanberry of Peoria, and Rosie Evans of Rushville; several grandchildren; four sisters, Norma (husband, Dick) Powell of Astoria, Joyce (husband, John) Jones of Quincy, Kathy (husband, Jack) Bell of Beardstown and Mary Ryan of Springfield; one brother George (wife, Julia) of Rushville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Tom and Donnie; maternal grandparents, William and Catherine Brown; and paternal grandparents, Jesse and Viola Anderson.
   Mr. Anderson attended Beardstown High School and then served in the U. S. Army from 1968 until 1971 in Germany and Vietnam. He was employed with Material Service Barge Line and retired from Excel Corporation in Beardstown in 2002 after 16 years of service. He worked at Bellville's Garage in Beardstown for 10 years where he enjoyed "tinkering" with cars. He loved restoring 1950s cars and he dearly loved his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to [email protected].

   Lyle Anderson, 78, of Springfield, IL and formerly of Virginia, IL died Friday, September 26, 2014 at Regency Nursing Care Residence in Springfield.
   He was born May 21, 1936 in Cass County, the son of Howard P. and Beulah Gerdes Anderson. He married Virginia Kay Hierman on March 18, 1962 in Virginia and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2011.
   He is survived by three sons, Chris Anderson (partner, Jonathan) of Springfield, Doug Anderson (wife, Mya) of Cypress, CA, and Darren Anderson of Springfield; four grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew, Luke, and Hannah Anderson, all of Cypress, CA; a sister, Charlene Anderson of Virginia; three brothers, Andy Anderson (wife, Shirley) of Jacksonville, Leroy Anderson (wife, Edra) of Jacksonville, and George Anderson (wife, Judy) of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Anderson (surviving wife, Carol of Springfield); two sisters, Joan Coffey and Mary Gregory Murphy; and three half siblings.
   Lyle was a 1955 graduate of Virginia High School and served with the US Army from 1959 to 1965. He was engaged in farming in rural Virginia his entire life. In addition, he was employed by Anderson-Clayton Foods in Jacksonville and later operated the family business, Hierman’s Appliance Store, from 1965 until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the Virginia United Methodist Church and a former member of the Virginia Jaycees and Virginia Lions Club. He also volunteered at the Virginia BBQ for many years. He enjoyed country music and brief getaway road trips. During his retirement, he enjoyed visiting family during trips to Fort Lauderdale, FL, Nashville, TN, and Los Angeles, CA.
   Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at the Virginia United Methodist Church in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet friends at the church from 10:00 am Tuesday until the time of services. Memorial gifts are suggested to Virginia United Methodist Church or the National Parkinson Foundation. Mary Margaret “Mickey” Anderson, 65, of Ashland, IL died Thursday, August 14, 2014 at her home.
   She was born August 10, 1949 in Springfield, the daughter of Alvin D. and Dorothy E. Maddox Cave. She married Scott Anderson on March 29, 1969 in Ashland and he survives.
   She is also survived by a daughter, Lori Roberts (husband, Brian) of Ashland; three grandchildren, Taylor Jacobs of Quincy, Cole Roberts of Ashland, and Marley Roberts of Ashland; three brothers, George Cave , Larry Cave (wife, Lisa), and Ron Cave (wife, Melodee), all of Ashland; two sisters, Judy Subu (husband, John) of Ashland and Helen Bernice Robinson of Springfield; her step father, Harold Ring of Ashland; a step sister, Angie Ratliff (husband, Ron) of Ashland; her caregiver, Kandy Horrer of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Cave and Dorothy Cave Ring; a sister, Susie Alexander; and two brothers, Jerry Maddox and in infancy, Harry Cave.
   Mickey was a graduate of Ashland High School and attended Lincoln Land Community College. She was employed with the Illinois EPA for 35 years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed gardening and, in her younger years, was a stock car and drag race driver. She was a member of the International Ford Retractable Club and enjoyed participating in many car shows.
   Graveside funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday at Pleasant Plains Cemetery in Pleasant Plains. The family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland. Memorial gifts are suggested to St. John’s Hospice. Paul E. Anderson, 93, of Ashland, IL died Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
   He was born July 30, 1916 in Jacksonville, IL; the son of Carl O. and Laura Payne Anderson.
   He is survived by a daughter, Connie Burton of Ashland; six grandchildren, Dallas Burton of Ashland, Donnie Burton of Auburn, Candy Smith of Ashland, Kyle E. Anderson of Ashland, Kim Anderson of Chicago, and Doug Anderson of Ft. Myers, FL; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul "Reg" Anderson; a daughter in law, Denise Farmer Anderson; and three brothers, Robert, Charles, and Raymond Anderson.
   Mr. Anderson served with the US Army during WW II. He was a farmer prior to working with the Ashland Street Department for 18 years and the Ashland Police department for 6 years. He retired from LA Security of Springfield. He also assisted with the Plattner's Trail Ride for several years. He served 19 years as an Ashland Village Trustee and volunteered many hours as an umpire for Ashland Youth Baseball. He was a member of Ashland Church of Christ, Ashland VFW Post, and Ashland American Legion Post.
   Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services and military honors will be conducted 10:00 AM Thursday at Ashland Cemetery in Ashland. The family will meet friends following the services at the June Forman residence, 319 S. Yates, Ashland, IL.    The news of the death of Robert Anderson was received with a feeling of regret and sorrow by his many warm friends and former business associates in Ashland. The honorable dealings with him during the many years he was in business here will long be remembered and his friendly greetings missed by all of us.
   Robert Anderson was born of Scotch parents in the Village of Dungannan, county of Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Dec.2, 1941 and died April 12, 1930, at the age of eighty-eight years, four months and ten days.
   In 1865 he came to America. He was united in marriage to Mariana Lucas in Philadelphia, Penn., May 2, 1967, the two having been acquainted in Ireland before coming to America. They came to Jacksonville, Ill., in 1872, then to Ashland, Ill in 1977, where he was engaged in the lumber business for almost fifty years.
   To their union four children were born: Robert L., Mrs. Henrietta Strawn, Mrs. Sadie Tomlin of Pleasant Plains, and William J of Kankakee, Ill. His wife, Mariana, His son, Robert L., and his daughter Henrietta, preceded him in death. On January 28, 1914, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Sarah E Correll, who also preceded him in death. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Sadie Tomlin, one son, William J., six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
   When in Jacksonville he united with the Westminister Presbyterian church; later, in 1885 he moved his membership to the Presbyterian membership to the Presbyterian church in Pleasant Plains where he was a faithful member.
   In 1869 he became a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, No. 243 in Philadelphia, Pa. Later he became a charter member of Lodge No. 770 in Pleasant Plains, Ill., where he received the diamond emblem for 50 years of faithful membership.
   The funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Tomlin, Pleasant Plains, on Tuesday, April 15, 1930 at 2 o'clock.
   The services were conducted by Rev. W.C. Shaffer, assisted by Rev. Ewing.
   Accompanied by Miss Clarice Rearick, Mrs. Annette Lohman tenderly sang three of Mr. Anderson's favorite songs: "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Crossing the Bar," and "The City Four-square."
   The many beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. George Witty, Mrs. Horace Witty, Mrs. Essie Corson and the Misses Helen Tomlin, Frances Tomlin and Geneva Purvines.
   Interment was in the Ashland cemetery and the bearers were: William Sever, J.F. Tomlin, F.E. Drury, Samuel Anderson, Leonard Wright and Thomas Wright.

Death of Robert L Anderson
   Robert L. Anderson was born in Philadelphia, Penn., July 29, 1868 and died at his home in Ashland, Ill., April 12, 1924, age 55 years 8 months, and 14days.
   On April 13, 1898, he was married to Mary E. Dinwiddie. She with two sons, Roland L. and Samuel W. remain to mourn their loss.
   He leaves also his father, Robt. Anderson of Ashland; a sister, Mrs. Issac Tomlin of Pleasant Plains, and a brother, William J. Anderson of Kankakee, Ill.
    He was a member of the first class graduated from the Ashland High School in 1886. The following year he graduated from Brown's Business College, Jacksonville, Ill.
   He took up as a life work the lumber business in which he as been engaged in Ashland for the past 20 years.
   His life interest centered in this business and in his home.
   The funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the residence, conducted by Rev. J.A. Biddle, pastor of the M.E. church, assisted by Rev. W. C. Shaffer of Pleasant Plains. A large number of friends attended the services, which were very simple, made so at the request of the deceased.
   Mr. Anderson was a member of both the Masonic and Odd Fellow orders of this city.
   The bearers were J.H. Lohman, W.S. Williams, E.R. Clemons, Dr. R.O. Beadles, Guy G. Glenn and R.F. Mau.
   The music rendered was by a quartet composed of Mrs. Anna Pearn, Mrs. H. J. Lohman, W. S. Rearick and Harry Harding.
   The many beautiful floral designs and flowers were cared for by Mrs. Geo Wittlinger, Mrs. D.L. Clarke, Mrs. Geo. A. Lightle and Miss Martha Crum.
   Interment was made in the Ashland cemetery.

Robert M. Anderson - 1923-2006 - Beardstown
    Robert M. Anderson, 83, of Beardstown, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 10, 2006, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
   He was born May 11, 1923, in Beardstown, the son of Mede M. and Cora Crews Anderson. He married Ethel Walton in February 1944, in Beardstown, and she survives.
   He is also survived by two daughters, Janice Kruse of Virginia and Kay (husband, Jim) Wagstaff of Murrayville; one grandson, Robert (wife, Tina) Kruse of Taylorville; one stepgreat-grandson; two brothers, Clifford and Melvin (wife, Linda), both of Beardstown; two sisters, Grace Anderson of Beardstown and Elenora VanJyning of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Jessie (his twin), Carl, Lee and Irvin; and two sisters, Audrey Mohlenbruck and Helen Anderson.
   Mr. Anderson attended Black Oak School in rural Beardstown. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was employed with Caterpillar for 36 years until his retirement. He was best known for the sweet potatoes, melons, and Christmas trees that he grew.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Robert W. 'Bob' Anderson, 1925-2008, Virginia
   Robert W. "Bob" Anderson, 82, of Virginia, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at his residence, north of Virginia.
   He was born July 18, 1925, in Roxanna, the son of Siegle W. and Maude Mae Hildebrand Anderson. He married Rosemary Bethel on Feb. 27, 1954, in Brighton, and she preceded him in death Feb. 24, 1994.
   He is survived by one daughter, Audrey (husband, David) Cox of Virginia; two sons, Wyatt D. (wife, Karen) of Chndlerville and Douglas N. of Virginia; six grandchildren, Devin (wife, Jessica) Cox, Chloe Cox, Adam (wife, Tina) Suffern, Wesley (wife, Sonia) Anderson, Ashley Anderson and Cole Anderson; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris (husband, Jack) Dilliard of Washington, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Whitney Anderson.
   Mr. Anderson was a boilermaker with Local 27 in St. Louis. He retired after 42 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in a "Seabees" division. One of his greatest loves was taking trips in his motor home.
   Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.    Ruth Elizabeth Anderson, 79, of Virginia, died Jan. 28 at Passavant Hospital.
   She was born in Scott County Nov. 23, 1900, a daughter of Frank and Ruth Post Drummond.
   She is survived by a daughter, Louise Michael of Virginia; two brothers, Theo Drummond of Griggsville and William Drummond of Mt. Clemens, Mich.; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
   Her husband, Seigel, preceded her in death in 1975. Two brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
   Services were held Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. at the Massie Funeral Home, Virginia. Burial was in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
   Memorial gifts may be made to the Heart Association.

   Vernon E. Anderson, 71, of rural Virginia, died Friday morning, Nov. 10, 2000, at his residence.
   He was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Cass County, the son of Roy Edwin and H. Mildred Orne Anderson. He married Joanne Launer Feb. 6, 1960 in Bluff Springs, and she survives.
   He is also survived by one son, Brian (wife, Brenda) of rural Virginia; one daughter, Denise (husband, Jeff) Davidsmeier of rural Virginia; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; one brother, Ralph (wife, Kathleen) of Davenport, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
   Mrs. Anderson farmed in Cass County for over 50 years and formerly worked in the winter months for Lynnwood Shorthorn Farms in Carmel, Ind., an affiliate of Purdue University. A graduate of Virginia High School, he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia and the Cass Morgan Farm Bureau. He formerly served on the Board of Directors for Petefish, Skiles & Company Bank of Virginia and, for 28 years, was a 4-H leader in Cass County. He had also served as an election judge in the Philadelphia precinct for longer than 40 years.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, where the family will meet friends 4-6 p.m. Memorial gifts are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church or the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.

   Virginia Kay Anderson, 72, of Springfield, IL and formerly of Virginia, IL died Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   She was born March 23, 1939 in Jacksonville, IL; the daughter of W. R. “Bob” and Sadie Kloker Hierman. She married Lyle Anderson on March 18, 1962 in Virginia, IL and he survives.
   She is also survived by three sons, Chris Anderson of Franklin, TN, Douglas Anderson (wife, Mya) of Cypress, CA, and Darren Anderson of Springfield; three grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew, and Luke Anderson, all of Cypress, CA; and a cousin, Marilyn Jean Briney of Naples, FL who was raised in the family home. She was preceded in death by her parents.
   Mrs. Anderson was a 1957 graduate of Virginia High School and assisted her husband in the operation of Hierman’s appliance store in Virginia. She served as an election judge and was a former board member of the Virginia Memorial Public Library. She was a member of Virginia United Methodist Church and the Virginia Lioness Club. She enjoyed playing cards with friends, reading, and crossword puzzles.
   Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet friends from 10:00 AM Saturday until the time of services. Memorial gifts are suggested to Virginia United Methodist Church or Virginia Memorial Public Library. Wilma Anderson - 1907-2003 - Beardstown
   Wilma Anderson, 95, of Beardstown, died Sunday evening, Jan. 12, 2003, at Heritage Manor South Nursing Home in Beardstown.
   She was born Oct. 7, 1907, in Perry, the daughter of Dennis and Mae Kirgan Gregory. She married Claude Anderson in January 1923 in Virginia, and he preceded her in death Dec. 14, 1973.
   She is survived by six daughters, Jean Edsall of Danville, Dorothy (husband, James) Krohe of Springfield, Betty (husband, Paul) Chartos of Hammond, Ind., Nancy (husband, Carroll) Lovekamp of Rushville, and Jan Anderson and Sherry (husband, David) Taylor, both of Beardstown; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Beaver and Alden Gregory; and two sisters, Viola Fishel and Nola Patterson.
   Mrs. Anderson attended Central School in Beardstown and she was the oldest living member of the Community of Christ in Beardstown. She owned and operated the A&W Drive-In, Sherry Pit Restaurant, and Dairy Bar in Beardstown for a number of years
   Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Family will meet friends from 5 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Private graveside rites will be held Thursday morning at Beardstown City Cemetery in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested the Community Christ Church in Beardstown.

Phillip J. Andrews, 1931-2002, Beardstown
   Phillip J. Andrews, 70, of Evergreen Terrace in Beardstown, died Thursday night, March 7, 2002, at the Heritage Manor South Nursing Home in Beardstown.
   He was born July 19, 1931, in Meredosia, the son of Phillip and Nellie Hall Andrews.
   Surviving are one sister, Velma (husband, Merle) Shores of Beardstown; one half-sister, Elsie Young of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
   Mr. Andrews attended Beardstown schools and worked for several years for Meyers Superette Grocery Store and the Red Fox Grocery Store, both in Beardstown.
   Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Beardstown City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12-12:45 p.m. today at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to the Cass/Schuyler Hospice.
