Mabel F. Abbott - 1903-2003 - Chandlerville
   Mabel F. Abbott, 99 years, of Chandlerville, IL died Sunday morning, March 9, 2003 at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia, IL.
   She was born September 9, 1903 in Cass County, the daughter of Arthur Lee and Nancy Ann Harbison Johnson. She married Paul Abbott and he preceded in death in 1970.
   She is survived by a son, William C. "Bill" Beck of Morton; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lee Cadamuro; two brothers, Arthur Lee Johnson Jr. and Richard M. Johnson.
   Mrs. Abbott was a graduate of Chandlerville High School and attended Brown's Business College in Peoria. She was a former bookkeeper for the Chandlerville Exchange and a member of the former Chandlerville United Methodist Church.
   Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Lintner-Buchanan Funeral Home in Chandlerville with burial in Chandlerville Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. Friday until the time of services. Memorials are suggested to the Chandlerville Cemetery or the Walker Nursing Home Activity Fund. Marian E. Abbott July 23, 1925-Dec. 22, 2010
   Marian E. Abbott, 85, of Chandlerville, passed away at Sunny Acres Home in Petersburg at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22. She was born July 23, 1925 in Freeport to Kenneth and Margaret (O'Neil) Shunk. she married Vertis Abbott on July 23, 1948. He preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1983.
   Mrs. Abbott is survived by five sons, William M. (Marette) Abbott of Chandlerville, Thoamas Erwin (Sheila) Abbott of Florida, Kenneth A. (Patricia) Abbott of Texas, Paul H. (Shirley) Abbott of Missouri, Richard Abbott of Chandlerville, twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, James Vertis Abbott.
   Mrs. Abbott attended church at the Chandlerville Christian Church and Fairview Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Women's Club at the Chandlerville Christian Church. She worked as a teacher for 30 years, teaching for the Chandlerville, Petersburg, Bath-Balyki and Virginia School Districts. She was later a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
   Funeral services were held at Fairview Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28. Burial followed the services at Fairview Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Waterman officiated.

Lois A. Achue, 1910-2008, Virginia
   Lois A. Achue, 97, of Virginia, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   She was born Oct. 13, 1910, in Cass County, the daughter of Theron and Gertrude Garner Alcorn. She married Leo Achue on Aug. 30, 1933, in Crown Point, Ind., and he preceded her in death Feb. 10, 1971.
   She is survived by nephews, Dale Alcorn of Quincy and Darrel Alcorn of Pekin; nieces, Jean Garner of Chandlerville and Carol McKinlay of Naples, Fla.; and several great- and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donovan and Virgil Alcorn.
   Mrs. Achue graduated from Virginia High School and attended the University of Illinois. She formerly taught school in Virginia and area country schools. She was a member of Virginia United Methodist Church.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Virginia United Methodist Church, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.    Bertha I. Ackerman, 83 years, of Virginia, IL died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, IL.
   She was born September 6, 1924 in Wood River, IL; the daughter of John and Suzie Sherman Hogle. She married Elmer E. Ackerman on May 3, 1941 in St. Charles, MO and he preceded in death on February 21, 1994.
   She is survived by three sons, Ken Ackerman (wife, Della), Jim Ackerman (wife, Nancy), and Mark Ackerman (wife, JoAnn), all of Virginia; a daughter, Karen Sue Ackerman of Virginia; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, John Ackerman (surviving wife, Cindy of Chandlerville) and several brothers and sisters.
   Mrs. Ackerman was an active prayer warrior for New City Church and WTJR Television. She provided home care services for the elderly in the Virginia area. She was an active volunteer with the Virginia BBQ and other community activities. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sewing, and baking. She valued her family, friends, and neighbors and was well known for her words of encouragement and her affectionate hugs.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. John E. Ackerman, 1945-2007
    John E. Ackerman, 61, of Chandlerville, died Friday morning, Aug. 31, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   He was born, Nov. 14, 1945, in Alton, the son of Elmer and Bertha Hogle Ackerman. He married Cindy Pherigo, on Aug. 9, 1975, at Bethel Baptist Church, and she survives.
   He is also survived by his mother of Virginia, five sons, John Jr. of Mt. Sterling, Daniel Ackerman of Baton Rouge, La., Joseph (fiance'e, Amanda Vancil) and Joshua (wife, Kate) Ackerman, both of Virginia, and Justin of Murrayville; seven grandchildren, Lance, Shelby, Blaine, Blair, Gavin, Samantha and Kennon; three brothers, Ken (wife, Della), Mark (wife, Joanne) and Jim (wife, Nancy), all of Virginia; two sisters, Karen of Virginia, and Jolene (husband, Lonnie) Hinkel of Dongola. He was preceded in death by his father.
   Mr. Ackerman is a member of Bethel Baptist Church, the American Legion, Chandlerville Lions Club, a Boy Scout leader with the Order of the Arrow, Chandlerville Fire Dept., Native American Dance Team Member, a member of The Northern Cherokee Nation of Old Louisiana Territory, and helped the Marine Toys for Tots Program. He served his country in the U.S. Marines from 1965-1971. He was retired from McLean Forge in Havana where he worked as a machinist.
   Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Chandlerville, with burial at Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Olive Church. Condolences may be left at www.hurleyfh.com.

   Funeral services for LeRoy Elias Adams were held Tuesday, May 3 at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church, Rev. C.L. Coleman officiating.
   Mr. Adams was born July 21, 1850 near Clinton, Wisconsin, and died in Ashland May 3 at the age of 85 years 9 months and 12 days. He was married to Milissa Trusdal, February 20, 1876. Two children were born to this union. His wife preceded him to the great beyond July 14, 1915 and one daughter August 10, 1916.
   He leaves to mourn his loss, one daughter, Mrs. B.W. Spears, Ashland; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister and many more relatives and friends
   .He was a man of few words and a very kind husband and father.
   Burial was in Ashland Cemetery.
   Pall bearers were S.J. Mahoney, Reuben Douglass, Eugene Clemons, Elmer Tucker, W.S. Williams and Arthur Carls.

    Mary Deborah (Debbie) Adkins, 29, who resided with her parents and grandparents in rural Chandlerville, died Wednesday August 25, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
   Miss Adkins was born in Alton December 1, 1952, daughter of Oakleigh R. and Catherine D. Maggos Adkins Jr., and they survive. Also surviving are a brother, Oakleigh R. Adkins III of rural Chandlerville, and a sister, Nancy JoAnn Adkins, also of rural Chandlerville, as do her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Maggos of Honolulu, Hawaii, and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Adkins Sr.
   Her maternal grandfather preceded her in death.
   Miss Adkins was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Chandlerville, where services were conducted August 27. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
   Memorials are directed to Lutheran Children and Family Services or Salem Luthean Church.

   Oakleigh R. "Stony" Adkins Jr., 76, of Chandlerville, died Tuesday afternoon May 23, 2006, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   He was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Jacksonville, the son of Oakleigh and Dorothy Cooper Adkins Sr. He married Catherine Maggos on Oct. 16, 1949, in Alton, and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Rocky (wife, Becky) of Chandlerville; one daughter, Nancy Adkins of Chandlerville, two grandchildren, Nathan J. and Taylor R. Adkins, both of Chandlerville; and one step-grandson, Andrew (wife, Kim) Wright of Columbia, Mo. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Deborah.
   Mr. Adkins was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Chandlerville, Mason County Farm Bureau, Chandlerville Legion Post and a commissioner of the Farmer's Drainage District. He farmed his entire life and for several years his farm was used as a test program for the pickup division of Chevrolet. He was a graduate of Western Military Academy, the University of Illinois at Champaign and a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville, with burial at Bethel Cemetery near Chandlerville. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund or CAV-Emt's in Virginia.

Mary E. Aggertt, 93, of Ashland, died Saturday evening, June 23, 2007 at Heritage Manor in Springfield.
   She was born October 1, 1913 in Morgan County, the daughter of Henry and Stella Walker Bersig. She married Charles F. Aggertt on Sept. 24, 1937, in Chandlerville, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 2006.
   She is survived by one daughter, Virginia Lee (husband, Harold) Sperry of Washington, Ill.; one son, Charles Stephen "Steve" (wife, Phyllis) of rural Ashland; three grandchildren, Carol Bierman of Gibson City, John Aggertt of Mahomet, and Colby Aggertt of Washington Courthouse, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Frederick, and one brother, Roland Bersig.
   Mrs. Aggertt was a 1931 graduate of Jacksonville High School. She was the oldest living graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She served as a registered nurse for Beardstown Hospital, Memorial Hospital, Rutledge Manor Nursing Home of Springfield, and Myers Nursing Home in Beardstown. She was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher, active in the United Methodist Women, and served on numerous committees. An avid bridge player, she was a former member of several card clubs and Ashland Women's Club.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ashland United Methodist Church in Ashland, with burial in Pleasant Plains Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Ashland United Methodist Church.    Phyllis J. Aggert, June 7, 1944-April 5, 2012
   Phyllis Jean Aggertt, 67, of rural Ashland, IL died Thursday, April 5, 2012 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield, IL.
   She was born June 7, 1944 in Clarinda, IA; the daughter of Darryl and Mary Neal Farrens. She married Charles Stephen Aggertt on March 9, 1975 in Ashland and he survives.
   She is also survived by two sons, John Aggertt (wife, Andrea) of Mahomet and Colby Aggertt (wife, Hillary) of Washington; a grandson, Bennett Aggertt of Mahomet; a brother, Rich Farrens (fiancé, Diana Kirkpatrick) of Washington Courthouse, OH; a sister, Pat Brush (husband, Larry) of Secor; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Cheryl Farrens.
   Mrs. Aggertt was a graduate of Eureka High School and Illinois State University. She was a devoted elementary teacher in Pleasant Plains School District for 34 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Ashland Woman’s Club and the Illinois Education Association. Phyllis enjoyed vacationing and travel experiences. She valued time spent with her family and friends especially her grandson.
   Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the Ashland United Methodist Church with burial at Pleasant Plains Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland. AINSWORTH, Martha E. , 90, of rural Chandlerville, died Saturday evening, November 24, 2007 at Mason City Area Nursing Home.
   She was born March 12, 1917 in Peoria, the daughter of Orville and Mae Anderson White. She married Albert Ainsworth on July 10, 1937 in Beardstown, and he preceded her in death Dec, 10, 1998.
   She is survived by two sons, Townley of Sylmar, Calif. and Jerry Ainsworth of Oakford; three daughters, Sondra Angst, Sonja Taylor, and Marshan Ainsworth, all of Havana; 11 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, and two sisters.
   Mrs. Ainsworth was a homemaker and a nurses aide at Mason District Hospital in Havana.
   Private funeral services will be held at a later date, with burial at Fairview Cemetery in rural Lynchburg Township. Memorials are suggested to the Mason City Area Nursing Home. AINSWORTH, Thomas - newspaper unknown
   Thomas Ainsworth was born Jan. 30, 1814 in Lancashire, England, son of Thomas and Sarah (TOWNLEY) Ainsworth. He died January 8, 1897 and is buried in Chandlerville City Cemetery with his three wives, Maria Abbott, Mrs. Sarah Thornley and Margaret ?. He had married Miss Abbott, in Lancashire in 1837. they were parents of ten children, seven of whom were still living in 1882, Mrs. Nancy Witt, Mrs. Alice Casey, Mrs. Sarah Ransome, Mrs. Mary A. Saye, Henry, Thomas T. and Joseph. Mr. Ainsworth was employed in a cotton factory at an early age, as was his father. He came to American in 1842 and settled in Mason Co., Ill, where he lived for thirty years. He moved to Chandlerville, Cass County, in 1877. He was a member of the Congregational Church and was a respected citizen who achieved success by his own indomitable energy.
