Beardstown; is a native of Germany; born July 30, 1833; son of Casper H. and Mary (Carls) Unland, natives of Germany; he, still living, a farmer by occupation, born in 1808; she, born in 1811; parents of thirteen children. John H. attended school in Weimar, Germany, three years, and also about one year here, and began farming in this county, and has ever since followed that occupation. He married, in this county, Nov. 19, 1857, Elizabeth Christianer, born in Germany, in 1830, daughter of Jost H. and Angel Christianer; they have had nine children: George H., Lucinda, Mary, Henrietta, Frank J., Henry W., William F., Louis (deceased), and an infant, (deceased).
