Virginia; is a native of this county; born May 29, 1857; son of Robert and Sarah E. (Mangis) Newman, natives of Virginia; he, a farmer residing in this county, she died about 1860, leaving two children, Alexander and Sarah Ann, wife of Thomas Workman of Virginia. Our subject received an ordinary education, and at the age of nineteen years began farming on his own account, and has since pursued that occupation; he has a well cultivated farm of ninety acres, on which he raises the usual crops. In this county Oct. 29, 1878, he married Ellen Cunningham, a native of this county, born Dec. 24, 1857; daughter of Thomas and Euphemis (Wilkey) Cunningham, residents of this county; two children have been born from this union, viz: Mary and Florence.
