JACOB METZMAKER, Jr., proprietor Park House, Chandlerville; was born in Augusta County, Va. On the 16th of January, 1844, and is the son of Jacob and Susan (Chapman) Metzmaker. Jacob, Sr., was born in Augusta County, Va., Jan 1, 1803; he emigrated with his family to Cass County, and settled in Virginia in the fall of 1855. His business is that of a farmer, at which he still continues in his seventy-ninth year. His wife, and mother of our subject, was born in Rockingham County, Va., in 1802, and died in Cass County in 1871; she was the mother of twelve children, ten girls and two boys. Jacob, Jr., our subject, was the ninth child. His education was advanced in Augusta County, as he says, "as far as the single rule of three." He also attended the High School at Virginia, Cass County; he remained with his parents until he was twenty-one years of age, and then embarked on his career in life as a farmer. He continued farming until 1881, when he came to Chandlerville and bought the Park House. He was married Nov. 15, 1867, to Priscilla Evans, a native of Morgan County; she has borne him the following children: Ethel G., born Feb. 5, 1869; Veffie G., born March 5, 1870; Otto O., born July 1, 1871; Eulalie, born May 7, 1875. Mr. Metzmaker served the people of Virginia as Precinct Constable and City Police, and is filling the same office in Chandlerville to the entire satisfaction of the community. He has the only public place of entertainment of the place; by careful management and study of the need of the traveling public; he is making a success of the business. Mr. Metzmaker is a Republican; he is a stirring, energetic man, who has been careful to dabble in no business to bring his name into disrepute, and as a consequence he enjoys an honorable name and reputation.
