SETH MILLS
In the middle of May, 1907,
the Seth Mills family came from Newberg (Oregon) to Greenleaf
and helped increase the population with their five daughters-Ola, Lucy,
Myrtle, Edna, and Anna. The parents, Seth and Rhoda, filed on the
acreage across the road from the Cooks where they built a two-story
house that was known as the Big House. Rhoda was soon named treasurer
of the monthly meeting; Seth served on various committees.
They evidently returned to Oregon
during the early part of the year 1909
after selling their home to Frank Herlocker. Later they
returned and built the house just north of the railroad on the early
Wilder Highway. Rhoda and Ola passed away and are buried in the
Greenleaf Cemetery. Later Seth married Edna Commons and moved back to
Oregon. Lucy married Lloyd Armstrong who was a farmer, and for many
years they lived one and one-half miles southwest of Greenleaf. Myrtle
married Elmer Franzen, a banker, and moved to Chicago. Edna was married
to Arthur Fisher, but the flu epidemic claimed her as one of its
victims. Anna went to Billings, Montana, where she met her husband, Ray
Moore, a jeweler.
