Services for Ostella A. Brown, 93, of Wilder, who died Monday, Oct. 29, in a Boise nursing home of natural causes, were held today at the Wilder Methodist church
The Rev. Sue Nelson Callie officiated under the direction of Summers Funeral Home. Burial was in the Wilder Cemetery. Graveside rites were by the Charity Rebekah Lodge 75, Wilder.
Mrs. Brown, a former postmaster at the Wilder Post Office, was born April 22, 1891, at Sims, N.D., a daughter of Hans Christian and Julie S. Anderson.
She moved with her family to Parma in 1905. She graduated from Parma High School in 1911, from Lewiston Normal School, and attended the University of Washington and the college of Idaho.
She taught school in Eden, Payette, Caldwell and Wilder. She married J. Frank Brown on Nov. 15, 1922, at Kent, Wash. They made their home in the Wilder community.
She resumed her teaching career and taught in the Wilder School system in the early forties. On Aug. 2, 1946, she was named postmaster at the Wilder Post Office, served there for 15 years, and retired on Aug. 31, 1961. Her husband died Oct. 18, 1976, and she had made her home at the Boise Samaritan Village since August of 1978. She and her husband were very active in the Wilder community throughout their married lives. She became an invalid following a fall at her home in December of 1973.
She was a member of the Wilder Methodist Church and the Charity Rebekah Lodge 75 in Wilder. She had been active in the Beulah Chapter No. 75, Order of Eastern Star and the Wilder Study Club.
In April of this year she was presented a 75-year honorary Veteran’s jewel for 75 years continuous membership in the order by members of the Charity Rebekah Lodge 75.
She is survived by a daughter, Julia Anne (Mrs. Joseph) Seibert of Boise; a granddaughter, Kathryn Ann Seibert of Boise; a brother, J. Sigurt Andersen of Laguna Hills, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Flora Andersen of Boise and Mrs. Sigrid Andersen of Bremerton, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, an infant son, six brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
Memorials may be made to the Boise Samaritan Village, the Charity Rebekah Lodge 75, Wilder, or to the Wilder Methodist Church. |
