Lougene Andersen, 92, of Wilder, died Saturday, February 15, 1997, at home of natural causes. He lived life fully up to the last day, and his passing was without suffering.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 20, at Wilder United Methodist Church, 4th and B, Wilder. Burial will be in the Wilder Cemetery.
Gene was born May 26, 1904, at Amity, Col., to Laurits (Louis) and Anna Andersen, immigrants from Denmark. When he was a child, his family moved to Canyon County, where his parents helped to found the town of Wilder.
Gene married Josephine Hill in 1928, and they lived in Wilder the rest of their lives. Jo preceded Gene in death in 1991 after a truly loving partnership of 63 years.
Gene and Jo farmed and ranched in Wilder, and together built a beautiful home on a bluff overlooking the scenic Snake River and the Owyhees. They spent many wonderful times together there, by themselves and with their children and grandchildren, who loved to visit and help with the farm chores.
Gene was a life member and Past Noble Grand of Idaho Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 137 of Wilder, which he joined in 1938. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren on fishing trips, and in his younger days he enjoyed deer and elk hunting on horseback.
He and Jo loved to travel in their motor home, and no one was ever a stranger to Gene. He had no shyness talking to anyone, and campsite neighbors soon became friends. The couple traveled to Quartzsite, Ariz., each winter after they retired and had many friends down there.
Gene was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his hearty laugh will be missed by all of us.
Gene is survived by one sister, Mildred Dunagan, of Wilder; two sons, Dale Andersen of Caldwell and Merle Andersen of Washington; and one daughter, Jan Thomas of Boise. He also left behind eleven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, all of whom remember him fondly. |
