Dies Thursday

L. B. Cowan 81, died Thursday
morning at a local hospital. He had been a resident of
Homedale for many years and was the father of Miss Celia
Cowan. Methodist missionary to China and formerly a
teacher in the Caldwell high school. The body was taken
to the Peckham funeral chapel. No arrangements for the
funeral had been made early Thursday afternoon. |

Funeral services for Lucius
Burnham Cowan of Homedale who died March 28 at a Caldwell
hospital, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at
the Methodist church at Homedale with the Rev. Chubb, assisted
by the Rev. Albert Parrett, officiating. Interment will
be in the Wilder cemetery.
Cowan was born November 22, 1853 in Ohio Town, Ill. He spent
his childhood in the vicinity of his birthplace and later
attended Wheaten (sic) college at Wheaten (sic), Ill. He
was married to Miss Mary Stephens, August 28, 1878 at Morrill,
Kans. Mr. and Mrs. Cowan lived in Kansas for many years
and then moved to Colorado for a number of years. They
came to the Boise Valley in 1902 and located near Nampa.
Two years later they took up a homestead near Homedale and
have made their home on that place since.
During his lifetime Mr. Cowan followed many trades including those
of blacksmith, merchant, printer, mechanic and carpenter.
He helped build the M. E. church at Homedale and was
superintendent of the Sunday school there for 20 years.
Surviving besides his widow are four children, Luther D. Cowan of
Homedale, William T. Cowan of Portland, Mrs. Florence C. ? of
Homedale and Miss Celia Cowan of Taechow, Szechwan, West
China. |
