MIDDLETON - Jay Matteson Stark, long-time resident of Middleton, passed away Wednesday at his home here after a long illness. The body is now at the Peckham chapel in Caldwell.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Middleton Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be at Middleton.
Mr. Stark, who was an apiarist of considerable repute, was active in Middleton civic affairs for more than a quarter of a century. He was a member of the city council, a member of the school boad and recently played an important part in the promotion of the proposed city water works in Middleton.
Surviving the deceased man are his widow, Mrs. Lura Stark; five children, Mrs. Myrna Robinson, Miss Marjorie Stark, Miss Zilpha Stark, Miss Eloise Stark and Russell Stark all of Middleton; two sisters, Mrs. M. B. Seahorn of Spokane and Mrs. Ruth Milay of Lewiston; one brother, Charles Stark of Wapoto, Wash., and one grandson, John Stark Robinson.
Mr. Stark was born in Clarksville, Mich., October 25, 1875. He came west at the age of 17 and settled at Rockford, Wash., and later to Idaho where he took up residence at Middleton in 1906. The same year he returned to Michigan where he married Miss Laura E. Hunter of Ypsilanti on December 26. |
