 Mrs. Porter Shaffer, 71, Will
 be Laid at Rest at Middleton
         Tuesday Afternoon

     MIDDLETON  (Special) - Mrs. Porter Shaffer, pioneer resident of the Boise Valley, died at her home at Middleton Sunday  morning, at the age of 71 years.  Funeral services will be held at the Middleton Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.  Interment will be in Middleton cemetery.
     Mrs. Shaffer has been in ill health for a number of years and suffered a paralytic stroke two weeks ago, which was the immediate cause of her death.
     Mrs. Shaffer has been a resident of Boise Valley since 1884, residing most of the time at Middleton.  She was born January 6, 1861, in Caldwell county, Missouri, and was married to Porter Shaffer in 1876.  Mrs. Shaffer was a member of the Methodist church.  Mr. Shaffer died several years ago.
     The deceased is survived by eight children, Lee Shaffer of Middleton, Mrs. Clara Ryals of Middleton, Mrs. F. E. Clemmens of Boise, Miss Pearl Shaffer of Middleton, Frank Shaffer of Middleton, Bert Shaffer of Oakland, Mrs. Ollie Hadsall of Middleton and Marvin Shaffer of Portland; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; three brothers, James Gray of Boise, W. R. and C. L. Gray of Middleton; two sisters, Mrs. George Taylor of Seattle and Mrs. Anna Clemens of Nampa.
     A son, Frank Shaffer, is at present ill in the Veterans' hospital at Boise
