Hubert Bailey

      Hubert W. "Bert" Bailey, 99, of Caldwell, died Saturday, April 16, 1994, at a Payette care center.  Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 1994, at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.  Don Hardenbrook, associate pastor of the Oregon Trail Church of god will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Middleton Cemetery.
     Mr. Bailey was born March 4, 1895, at Eaton, Colorado, to Fred E. and Merial D. Bailey.  He was raised in Colorado and Wyoming, coming to Caldwell in 1909 at the age of fourteen.  He worked on various ranches in the Caldwell area, later driving a stage coach from Caldwell to Jordan Valley and from Caldwell to Sweet.  He married Mellie B. Little at
Sunnyside, Idaho March 4, 1929.
     Mr. Bailey joined the CCC in June of 1933 and worked as a cook and carpenter for the Forestry Dept. until being discharged in May of 1935.  He moved to Middleton where he worked as a carpenter for a number of years and moved to Midvale in 1950 where they farmed.  In 1972 they moved to Cambridge where they resided until moving to Payette in 1987.  The came to Caldwell in 1988.  Mrs. Bailey died January 1, 1989.
     Mr. Bailey was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge #10. Caldwell, and was a Past Grand of the I.O.O.F. Lodge #52, Middleton.
     He is survived by three sons, Edward G. Bailey of Pasadena, California, Wilbur J. Bailey of Ewa Beach
, Hawaii, and David E. Bailey of Cambridge; three daughters, Sarah E. Matsen of Fruitland, Merial E. Johnson of Medina, Ohio, and Linda Gladhart of Cambridge; 24 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, three grandchildren, one brother and two sisters.
