RAILROAD MAN IN FATAL FALL William M Jackson, Nampa Switchman, Crushed Beneath Moving Car DEATH ENSUES SHORTLY Preliminary Investigation Is Made by County Coroner A. A. Faris      NAMPA - Thrown beneath a "drag" of moving cars in the yards of the Oregon Short Line Thursday morning, Switchman William M. Jackson was so terribly injured that his death ensued a little more than an hour later.     The accident occurred at the east end of the yards, near the roundhouse site, at 10:30 o'clock.  The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital.  There every effort of the attending surgeons proved unavailing, and death claimed their patient shortly before noon. Cause of Fall Unknown     Members of the switching crew with whom Jackson was working are unable to account for his fall from the end of the car.  He fell between the rails.  Though he thus escaped the wheels, his body was caught by projections beneath the car and was badly bent and crushed, despite the fact that the cars were quickly brought to a stop.  Examination showed that the unfortunate man suffered a fracture of the skull and had his left hip and right knee badly crushed. Coroner Investigates     Coroner A. A. Faris arrived from Caldwell late in the day and made a n investigation.  While of the opinion that an inquest would hardly be necessary, he stated that he would return for a further inquiry into details of the accident Friday morning, and will then decide as to the necessity of holding formal investigation before a jury.  Officials of the railroad expect to conduct the customary public investigation some time Friday.     Jackson, who was 28 years old, had been employed in the yards here as a switchman for several years.  He was a member of the Order of Railway Trainmen.  His wife, a daughter of Roadmaster P. A. Pheney, survives.  His mother, who recently visited here with the family, lives at Denver.  Until word is received from her no definite funeral arrangements will be completed.
