HOMEPAGE

Cecilia Schmitt

Cecilia Schmitt, 79, of Nampa, died Friday, Dec. 23, 1994, at her home with her family at her side.  Vigil services will be held at 8 p.m. today, Dec. 27, at Persons-Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Nampa.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Dec. 28, at St. Paul's Catholic Church with the Rev. Father John Tivenan of Mercy Medical Center as the celebrant.  Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Nampa.
Cecilia was born Dec. 1, 1915, in Nampa, a daughter of George and Clarinda Rivett Martineau.  She grew up and attended schools here, graduating from Nampa High School in 1934.  She was a piano player and a good musician who played with several local bands.  She married Howard F. Schmitt Feb. 10, 1936, in Nampa where they made their home.  She played for their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1986 with the Joe Slagg Orchestra.
    God saw her getting tired
When a cure was not to be.

So peaceful and free from pain,
We could not wish her back
   To suffer that again

She retired from her musical career in 1975 and her happiest times thereafter were spent at their cabin in Cascade and on trips to California to be with her daughter in the winters.  Cecilia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Howard of Nampa; a son and his wife, Joe and Beatty Schmitt of Nampa; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Virgie and Wally McGolden of Seal Beach, CA, Gerry, and Jim Adkins of Yellow Pine,  ID, Linda Mortensen, Sue and Doyle Collins and Vickie and Greg Lovejoy, all of Nampa; three sisters, Rita Ward of Nampa, Alvina Callsen of Caldwell and Theresa Knox of Nampa; sisters-in-law, Mabel Martineau, Velma Martineau and Mildred McDonald, all of Nampa, a very special sister-in-law, Shirley Schmitt of Nampa; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice Service, c/o Mercy Medical Center, 1512 12th Ave. Road, Nampa, 83686, or flowers may be sent.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and on Wednesday until 10:30 a.m. at Persons-Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
