Services for Ralph Edward Cookston, 67, Parma, who died of
natural causes Thursday, April 24,at his home, will be
conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Dakan Funeral Chapel,
Parma.
Howard Iverson of the Caldwell Kingdom Hall, Jehovah's
Witnesses, will officiate. Burial will follow in the
Parma Cemetery.
Mr. Cookston was born May 20, 1918, at Dunlap, Tenn.,
to Lee and Florence Cookston. As a child, he moved to
the home of an uncle in Missouri where he was reared.
When he was a young man, he moved to Wyoming where he worked
in a coal mine. During the spring and summer months each
year he worked on the West Coast as a logger.
He married Beulah K. Spores on Jan. 23, 1946, at Rock
Springs, Wyo. He had worked in the logging areas of the
West Coast for 30 years before moving to Parma in 1969.
While in Parma he had worked at Tamura Onion Company until
retiring in September of 1985.
He is survived by his wife of Parma; four sons, Jerald
Cookston and John Cookston, both of Parma, Donald Cookston of
McCloud, Okla., and Don Maggard of Parma; three daughters,
Janice Brown of Parma, Joyde Hodge of Port Orford, Ore., and
Donna Kenworthy of Norman, Okla.; a sister, Oleta Duncan of
Tonapah, Nev.; two brothers, Ernest Cookston of Bremerton,
Wash., and John Cookston of St. Elmo, Alabama; 18
grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
