Roy Donald Collins, 71, of Nampa, and formerly of Caldwell,
died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1992, at his home following a short
illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at Cloverdale
Funeral Home, Boise, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1992, with
Dr. Joel Wallace officiating. Graveside services will be held
at Middleton Cemetery at noon Wednesday. Services are under
the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home.
Don Collins was born on April 14, 1921, at Sunny Slope,
Idaho to Roy and Nellie Collins. He was reared and educated
at Sunny Slope and Caldwell High School. On February 17,
1941, he enlisted in the Navy where he served for 21 years
until May 31, 1962, at which time he transferred to the Fleet
Reserve and retired in February 1971. During his service in
the Navy, Don participated in the African invasion and several
campaigns in the Pacific during WWII and the Korean War.
After the war he served in several overseas islands; Guam, Chi
Chi Jima, and Hawaii. During his service he was awarded the
Bronze Star, seven good conduct medals and numerous campaign
medals. After leaving the Navy, Don worked for California
State Highway Landscaping until October 1969 where he
maintained the watering systems and shrubbery suffering a
stroke in October 1969, Don moved back to the Caldwell area in
1971, where he retired. Don married Lorraine P. Wallace May
6, 1977, at Elko, Nevada. They resided in Caldwell until
August 1988 when they moved to their current address in
Nampa. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and family
gatherings where he was known for his own brand of humor. His
favorite hobby was changing automobiles every year or so and
sprucing them up.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Nampa; one son
and daughter-in-law, Robert D. and Lynnette L. Collins of
Caldwell; three brothers, Bob and Bert Collins of Caldwell,
and Wendell Collins of Caldwell; three sisters, Marguerite
Olson of Madras, Oregon, Dorothy and Melvin Miller of
Caldwell, and Louise and Doug Endecott of Caldwell; four
grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife,
Annabell Collins. Don was a life member of Veterans of
Foreign Wars and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association
and the Caldwell elks.
