Mary Babbitt

    Mary Babbitt, 84, of Melba, died Wednesday, February 12, 1997, at a Nampa care center.  Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 1997, at the Melba Friends Church.  Pastor Ron Lowry of the church will officiate.  Burial will be in the Melba Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
     Mary was born on March 2, 1912, in Flasher, North Dakota, to Jesse W. and Hazel Howard Cotner.  She was raised and educated in North Dakota.  She married James Oliver Harper in September of 1928 in Carson, North Dakota, and they moved to Idaho in 1935.  Mr. Harper died in 1952.  She married Rev. Herman A. Fisher in  1961 in Nampa, and they were married until Rev. Fisher died in 1971.  She married Rev. Irwin Alger in Boise in 1984, and he preceded her in death in 1992.  She married Chester Babbitt on May 1, 1993 in Melba, and they have resided in Melba since.
     Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She was much loved and will be greatly missed.  Her family and her church, The Melba Friends Church, was most important in her life.  She loved to work on her quilts and enjoyed walks in the woods, picnics, wildflowers, beautiful rocks, fishing and enjoying the outdoors.
     She is survived by:  Her husband, Chester Babbitt of Melba;  Two sons and daughters in law, Robert and Leona Harper of Boise and Blaine and Helen Harper of Caldwell;  Two daughters and sons in law, Frances and Ervil Chiles of Boise and Donna Jean and Joe Kinsella of Vancouver, WA;  Three brothers, John Cotner of Texas, Tom Cotner of Melba and Paul Cotner of  Boise;  Four sisters, Alta Harper of Boise, Ruby Boyd of Portland, Jean Bond of Boise and Ruth McLean of Boise; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
     She was preceded in death by three husbands and two sons, Delwin and Milton Harper.
     Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel on Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

     Memorials may be made to her church, Melba Friends Church, 301 Randolph Ave., Melba, ID 83641
