Jess Armas

     Services for Jess "Shorty" "Cuba" Armas, 81, of Nampa, who died Monday, Oct. 6, at a Boise hospital, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
     Father Merle J. Fisher, S.M., of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Nampa, will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Nampa.
     Mr. Armas was born Oct. 15, 1904, in Bilbao, Spain.  He moved as a small boy to Cuba with his mother.  At the age of 14 he moved to southwest Idaho and worked as a shepherd for several years.
     He married Ruth Ellis.
     In the early 1930s, he began to work for Amalgamated Sugar in Nampa.
     He married Tessie Pickernell in Nampa.
     He retired in 1969 after 30 years with the sugar factory.
     He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and a member of the Nampa Eagles Lodge No. 2103.
    He loved working with horses and worked for the Snake River Stampede for several years.  He also loved to dance and attended many local Basque dances.
