Grim Reaper Ends Careers of Three Parma
Residents Friday

     PARMA  (Special) - Three of Parma's respected citizens passed away Friday, January 6.  Two of them, John Wesley Price and James G. Watkins, were old timers of the community, having lived in Idaho for more than 30 years.  The third was Samuel I. Smyser who had been in ill health for some time.
     John Wesley Price, 88, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Andrews, Friday afternoon, following a short illness.  "Grandpa" Price, as he was known to all who knew him, was Parma's last Civil war veteran.  He had fought in 40 battles, including the famous march of General Sherman to Richmond in 1864.
     Mr. Price had lived in Idaho for 30 years, and was a resident of Parma for about 26 years.  He took a prominent part in the church work here and was an elder of the Community church.
     Besides a host of friends he leaves one brother, Nelt Price, Carmen, Idaho.  11 children, Mrs. Ellen Hubman, Boulder, Colo., Mrs. Alice Blakesman, Jesup, Iowa, Mrs. Nettie Lucas, Longmont, Colo., Mrs. Doris Brown, Sedro Wooley, Wash., Lester Price, Algona, Wash., Mrs. Blanche McKibben, Caldwell, Charles Price, Dowling, S. D., and Mrs. Ruth Andrews, Mrs. Jennie Walmsley, Mrs. Lola Goddard and Milo Price of Parma; 32 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
     Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Community church with the Rev. M. G. Montgomery of Portland officiating.  Interment was made in the Parma cemetery.  The Parma post of the American Legion was in charge of the militray honors paid to Mr. Price.
     James G. Watkins, passed away Friday evening at the Mercy hospital in Nampa after an illness of many months.
     Mr. Watkins became critically ill the forepart of last week and was taken to the hospital, where he underwent an operation from which he never regained consciousness.
     He was a citizen of Parma for nearly 30 years and was a member of the Parma Community church and the local Odd Fellows lodge.  He leaves his wife; two children, Mrs. Julia Jenkins of Weiser, and Dallas Watkins of Parma; two grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Watkins of Pamra and one sister, Mrs. Ida Glenn of Caldwell.
     Dr. W. J. Boone of the College of Idaho conducted the funeral services in the Community church Sunday afternoon.  Burial was in the Parma cemetery.
     Samuel I. Smyser, 80, died Friday at the home of his son.

          Final rites for Samuel Irvin Smyser, 80, were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church of Middleton.  Interment was in the Middleton cemetery.
     Mr. Smyser died at his home in Parma Thursday evening, January 5.  He is survived by two sons, Elmer Smyser of Fallows, Cal., and Orval Smyser of Parma; two daughters, Mrs. Sibbald Easly of Redding, Cal. and Mrs. Larie Taylor also of Redding; eight grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters.
