Mrs. Austin Goodson Killed and Husband Seriously Injured in
Wreck

Mrs. Austin Goodson of
Parma was killed in an automobile accident two miles east of
Parma Tuesday evening at 11 o'clock, her husband suffered a
double fracture to his jaw and severe cuts and bruises.
Miss Opal Shippey sustained a severe laceration to her thigh
and minor cuts and bruises. Herbert Johns, also of Parma
and driver of the ill-fated car, escaped uninjured.
The four persons had attended a movie in Caldwell, had
returned to Parma for some hamburger and catsup, and were
returning to the Fitts farm five miles east of Parma to
prepare a lunch when the accident occurred.
All four persons were riding in a Ford roadster. Johns
lost control of the car and it traveled more than 50 feet on
the left side of the highway before it met a crossroad and
ditch. To right the car, Johns turned the steering wheel
sharply to the right. The car swung to the right side of
the road, completely upsetting. The accident occurred
just opposite the Pete Vandermore farm.
Mrs. Goodson's body was taken to the Peckham funeral
chapel at Parma. Mr. Goodson was brought to the Caldwell
sanitarium and Miss Shippey was taken to her home in Parma.
Coroner William Talley and Attorney Frank E. Meek
visited the scene of the accident Wednesday morning. No
inquest will he held, it was announced following the
investigation. |

Funeral services for
Mrs. Viola Goodson, 20-year-old wife of Austin Goodson of
Parma, will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the
Christian church of Parma with the Rev. W. O. Benthin
officiating. Interment will be in the Tucker cemetery.
Mrs. Goodson was killed in an automobile accident two
miles east of Parma Tuesday night. She is survived by
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Hudson, of Prairie City,
Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. Irene Stockton of Parma and two who
live in Boise, and one brother, Darrel Hudson of Boise.
Mr. Goodson was reported to be "as well as could be
expected" at the Caldwell sanitarium Thursday morning.
He was taken to the hospital following the accident in which
he sustained a double fracture to his jaw. |
