Funeral services for Grant D. Yarber, 79, Route 1, Melba, who
died Friday in a Nampa hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m.
Tuesday at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Nampa, by the Rev. Harley
Adams of Melba Friends Church, assisted by Pastor Benny C.
Boling of the First Christian Church, Boise. Grange rites
will be conducted by Walter’s Butte Grange. Interment will
follow at Melba Cemetery, with rites conducted by the Odd
Fellows Lodge, Melba.
He was born on Aug. 30, 1902, in Nogo, Ark., to Thomas
and Georgianne Coran Yarber. He worked on railroad and
highway construction and in the West Texas oil fields before
moving in 1933 to Murtaugh, when he began farming and
trucking. He served in the Army in 1942. He married Cora
Whitted McKeeth on Aug. 10, 1942, in Winnemucca, Nev. She
died in 1943. He moved to Melba in 1944 and worked for L.E.
Newcomb. He married Mae Rowen in June 1951, and they began a
Meridian dairy operation with his son-in-law, Eldon Gray. In
1955, they returned to Melba, where he farmed with Rex Jensen
for 20 years, specializing in alfalfa seed. She died March
21, 1971. He married Ada Cook on Jan. 2, 1972, in Nampa.
They farmed until he retired in 1974. He was a member of the
First Christian Church, Boise, Walter’s Butte Grange, Melba
1OOF Lodge, Royal Neighbors of America, and was a charter
member of the Grade A Milk Producers Association.
He is survived by his wife of Melba; a son, Bill of
Westlake Village, Calif.; two brothers, Sherman of Conroe,
Texas, and Lando of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; three step
children, Joyce Gray, Virginia Greenfield and Ross McKeeth,
all of Boise; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a
great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a
stepson.
Memorials may be made to the Respiratory Unit, Mercy
Medical Center, Nampa; the Idaho Lung Association; or the Elks
Rehabilitation Hospital, Boise.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons. |
