Services for Everett Edwin Corn, 90, of Caldwell, who died
Sunday, April 12, in the Caldwell hospital of natural causes,
will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park Baptist
Church, Caldwell.
The Rev. Jeff Cooke of the church and the Rev. Ken
Armstrong of Leavensworth, Wash., will officiate, under the
direction of the Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Burial
will follow at the Middleton Cemetery.
Mr. Corn was born June 8, 1896, to Silas and Anna Corn,
at Pleasant Hope, Mo., where he received his eighth-grade
education.
In 1913, he moved to Idaho with his family and settled
in the Marble Front and Middleton areas.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War I,
stationed in the United States.
He married Joy Ruth Foote July 20, 1918, and they
settled in Middleton.
In Middleton he was involved in several businesses
including Gerhauser and Corn Sales and Service, Middleton
Garage and Feed Mill, and an Atwater Kent radio dealership.
In 1928, the family moved to the Wittier, Calif., area,
where he was a mechanic and raised chickens and rabbits.
In 1931, the family returned to the Middleton area, where he
continued to work in the feed business and as a mechanic and
parts man in Boise.
In 1936, he purchased Oregon Trail Tire and Battery
Shop and changed the name to Caldwell Auto Supply. In
1937, the family moved to Caldwell and he became associated
with NAPA (National Automotive Parts Association). With
his children and grandchildren, he established NAPA Auto Parts
stores in Nampa, Nyssa, Ore., Homedale, Parma, Vale, Ore.,
Meridian, the Karcher area, Jordan Valley, Ore., Wilder and
Middleton. He also opened the Sugar Bowl at Nyssa.
In 1986, the business celebrated its 50th anniversary.
Mrs. Corn died in September, 1967.
He married Cleo Lilly on July 24, 1969.
He was a charter member of the Memorial Park Baptist
Church, serving in many capacitates there, including being an
honorary deacon. He was a former member of both the
Lions and Kiwanis clubs. He served on the Salvation Army
board of directors, and on Caldwell Chamber of Commerce
committees. He was a former president of the Idaho state
Gideons. He was one of three trustees emeritus of
Linfield College, McMinnville, Ore., and a recipient of a
layman's citation from the Berkeley Baptist Divinity School.
He is survived by his wife of Caldwell; a son and
daughter-in-law, Sam and Betty Lou Corn of Meridian; a
daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth "Betz" and Les Montgomery
of Caldwell; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Eugene and
Verlie Lilly of Florida; six grandchildren and their spouses;
10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. |
