Evan
Andrew Brewer |
Andy
Brewer, 86, of Wilder and Boise died May 16, 1997,
at a Boise care center.
Andy was born Aug. 26, 1910, at Seligman, in the Ozark
hills of Missouri. He lived in Missouri until he moved to
Wilder at the age of 21. Soon he met the love of his life,
Lillian Osborne, and they were married October 8, 1933. Their
first home was a tent at a Morrison Knudsen construction site
where Andy was a cook. They spent most of their married life
in Wilder and that is where they call “home.”
In the community he was known as the man who could fix or
build anything and earned the nickname of “Handy Andy”. He
had a wide variety of jobs in his lifetime. He cooked,
farmed, was a mechanic on oil rigs in
Calif.
And Saudi Arabia, and owned the Wilder Repair Shop for many
years.
Andy remained very active, doing repair jobs and tending
his large garden, until his first stroke at age 83. His
favorite hobbies were fishing and hunting. He loved these
hobbies not only for the sport but for the fellowship with his
friends. He was also very active in his church and
community. He used his cooking skills often to feed large
crowds. He was a member of the Golden Gate Baptist church
of Wilder, the Masonic
Lodge, and the Odd Fellows.
Andy was preceded in death by a son, Jerry. He is
survived by his son and daughter-in-law Bill and Joyce Brewer
of Boise; a daughter and son-in-law, Royce and Betty Chigbrow
of Meridian; a daughter-in-law, Maureen Brewer of Boise, 8
grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Andy will be remembered as a devoted husband, wonderful
father, special friend and a man of faith. His love for God
was evident in the way he lived. He was a very happy man that
literally “Whistled While He Worked” and brought fun and
energy to any gathering.
The family suggests memorials to the Golden Gate Baptist
Church of Wilder, Idaho 83628. Friends may call Monday, May
19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the golden Gate Baptist church.
Services will be Tuesday, May 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the
church. Private interment will follow in the Wilder
Cemetery. Services are
under the direction of the Chapel of the Chimes in Meridian. |
