Charley Barnard

     Funeral services for Charley L. Barnard, 85, of Umatilla, Ore., and formerly of the Central Cove area south of Wilder, who died Thursday, Dec. 12, at a Pendleton, Ore., hospital will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale.  The Rev. Raymond Thompson of the United Methodist Church, Caldwell, will officiate, and interment will follow at the Wilder Cemetery.
     Mr. Barnard was born on Sept. 9, 1900, at Delaware County, Okla., where he was reared and educated. He married Opal Quick on Oct. 24, 1925, at Jay, Okla.  They lived in California on several occasions before settling in the Los Angeles area in 1937.  He worked for his brother in the floor covering business for several years and later opened his own shop for floor covering and custom-made venetian blinds.  He also sold newspapers at different defense plants in the evenings from 1942 until 1953 in conjunction with his other jobs.  They moved northwest of Homedale in 1953 where he operated a dairy, farmed and raised hogs until 1971 when he retired.  Mrs. Barnard died on Oct. 13, 1983.  He moved to Umatilla in April of 1985.  He enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, fishing, hunting and camping.
     He is survived by four sons, Donval of Hillsboro, Ore., Duane and Tennan of Wilder, and Callynn of Middleton; a daughter, Wilma Powell of Umatilla; two brothers, Orval and Raymond of Central Point, Ore., 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters and his parents.

     Friends may call Monday at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
