Woman Succumbs

     Death claimed the last member of the lower Boise Valley pioneers Monday afternoon and the Parma community lost a beloved character when Mrs. Callie Augusta Carlyle, 78, died at her home four-and-one-half miles southwest of Parma.
     Callie Augusta Holbrook was born in Douglas county, Iowa, on November 3, 1863.  She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Holbrook, who crossed the plains from Iowa to Idaho in a covered wagon when Callie Augusta was five years old.  The family settled first at old Fort Boise and from there moved to a place one mile east of Parma where the future Mr. Carlyle spent her childhood.  She attended the Parma public school that occupied the present site of the Parma Mill and Elevator Co.
     On Thanksgiving day in 188, Miss Callie Augusta Holbrook and William Henry Carlyle were married in the little village of Parma.  The farm they purchased at that time from David Mumford continued to be their home for the years to come.  Mr. Carlyle died at the family home August 25, 1930.
     Survivors include three sons, Martin W. Carlyle and Frank Carlyle both of Parma;  Harvey Carlyle of Umatilla, Ore.;  one daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Harrold of Boise;  three brothers, Gene Holbrook of Ola;  George Holbrook of Emmett and Bob Holbrook of San Francisco;  one sister, Mrs. Cora Brown of Boise;  seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
     The body is at  the Peckham chapel.  Services will be held at the Community church in Parma, Friday at 2:30 p.m., with Dr. H. H. Hayman of the College of Idaho in charge.  Interment will be in the Parma cemetery.
