Alvis D. Collins, 78, of Wilder, died after a long illness
with cancer, Tuesday, November 21, 1995, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November
25, 1995, at the Golden Gate Baptist Church, Wilder.
Reverend Everett Berrey will officiate, with Lodge Rites by
the Odd Fellows #137, Wilder, under the direction of Flahiff
Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Interment will follow at
Wilder Cemetery with Military Rites by the VFW Post #11065,
Wilder.
Mr. Collins was born March 14, 1917, at Douglass
County, Missouri, a son of Shelt and Rosie Belle Johnson
Collins. He was reared and educated in Douglass County,
Alvis entered the U.S. Army on July 15, 1941, serving his
country during WWII until October 15, 1945, when he was
honorably discharged. Alvis was awarded the Purple
Heart. He was in the Army reserve and entered the Korean
War in June of 1950 and was discharged in October of 1951.
Alvis came to Idaho in 1956 and worked for the Batt Farms.
On July 7, 1960, he married Ethel Osborn Smallwood in Wilder.
Alvis was a life-time member of the VFW Post #11065,
Wilder, a member of the Golden Gate Baptist Church, a member
of the Odd Fellows Lodge #137 Wilder, Pioneer Lodge #1, Idaho
City, Owyhee Lodge #2, Silver City, ID, Encampment #3
Caldwell, the Rebekah Lodge #75 Wilder. Alvis enjoyed
being around his grandchildren and loved to fish and to
garden.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel of Wilder; a stepson,
Charles Smallwood of Wilder; three stepdaughters and
son-in-laws, Cecil Lover and Marion Simpson of Windsor,
Colorado; Susan and Arnold Waldemer of Wilder, Idaho, and Judy
and Dale Durbin of Clinton, Tennessee; a brother and
sister-in-law, Fent and Alma Collins of Wilder; a
brother-in-law and his wife, Glenn and Shirley Osborn of
Wilder; a sister, Mattie Murrel of Bentonville, Arkansas; 9
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and
two sisters.
The family suggests memorials to the Odd Fellows,
Wilder, Idaho; or the Golden Gate Baptist Church, Wilder,
Idaho.
