Alvin York

   Graveside funeral services for Alvin S. York, 72, of Nampa, formerly of Melba, who died Friday, July 12, at a Nampa hospital, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Melba Cemetery with the Rev. Irwin Alger, associate pastor of the Melba Friends Church, officiating.  Graveside rites will be conducted by the I.O.O.F. Lodge #150, Melba.  Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.  Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
     He was born on Feb. 27, 1913, at Broken Arrow, Okla., to Lemuel C. and Martha Belle York.  He was reared and educated in Oklahoma and moved to Melba in 1927 where he began to farm.  He married Jeanne Ross in 1932 at Vale, Ore.  They lived in Melba and continued to farm.  She passed away on
July 17, 1975.  He married Lola May Stansbury on Feb. 27, 1980, at Twin Falls.  They lived on his farm in Melba until his retirement in February of 1985 when they moved to Nampa.  He was a member of the Melba Odd Fellows Lodge #150.
     He is survived by his wife of Nampa; two sons, Ross of Baker, Ore., and Ron of Payette; one step-son, Danny Montgomery of Melba; two step-daughters, Candy Hagaman of Melba and Tina Deakins of Nampa; four brothers; five sisters; 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.  He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
