Services for Albert Melvin Baxter, 68, of Notus, who died
Sunday, Feb. 22, at the Veterans Hospital in Boise of natural
causes, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Notus First
Baptist Church.
Pastor Robert Obenchain will officiate, under the
direction of the Shaffer-Jensen Chapel, Payette. Burial will
follow in Lower Boise Cemetery near Parma, with military rites
by Veterans of Foreign Wars posts No. 3465, Nampa, and No.
3886, Caldwell.
Mr. Baxter, a retired employee of Black Canyon Irrigation
Co., was born Oct. 21, 1918, at Middleton, to John Thomas and
Martha June Baxter. He attended schools in Barber and Ten
Davis, and graduated from Parma High School.
Following high school, he joined the U.S. Navy where he
served for six years.
He married Ethel Maree Popay, of Rome, Ga., June l, 1943,
at Miami, Fla.
After their service duty, they moved to Notus, where they
had resided for the past 44 years.
Mr. Baxter was employed by Dairymen's Creamery Association
and Idaho Concrete pipe Co. He then worked for 12 years for
the Black Canyon irrigation Co. in Notus. He retired in 1983.
He was a 35 year member of the Notus First Baptist Church,
where he served as Sunday school teacher and a deacon.
He is survived by his wife of Notus; a son, Steve Baxter
of Notus; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Carolyn
Baxter of Fruitland, and Mike and Nancy Baxter of Boise; a
daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Jerry Carver of Portland;
three brothers, Bob and John Baxter, both of Boise, and Glen
Baxter of Meridian; three sisters, Ella Moyer, Ruby Walker and
Rosely Rowland, all of Caldwell; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Don
Baxter; and three sisters, Grace, Jennie and Hazel. Memorials
may be made to the Notus First Baptist Church building fund.
Friends may call today from 4 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the
Payette Shaffer-Jensen chapel and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to
1:30 p.m. at the Notus First Baptist Church. |
