N. Gertrude Skinner, 91, of Caldwell, died Sunday, May 26,
1991, at a Caldwell nursing home. Funeral services will
be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at the Dakan Funeral
Chapel, Caldwell. The Rev. Raymond A. Thompson of the
Caldwell United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial
will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery.
Gertrude was born Feb. 8, 1900, in Frankfort, Ind., a daughter
of Ross J. and Elizabeth Young. The family moved to
South Dakota about 1908, where she spent her early life.
She married Harry C. Skinner Dec. 15, 1919, at Sioux City,
Iowa, upon his return from World War I overseas service.
They moved to Idaho in 1919, and farmed in the Wilder area,
and moved to Caldwell in 1946. Harry passed away April
17, 1976. Being of quiet nature,
Gertrude loved being a mother and wife. One of her
hobbies was doing beautiful hand work and she enjoyed working
in her flowers and garden. She also wrote poetry.
For 40 years, after moving to Caldwell, she helped many
families care for their little children, all of whom she loved
so very much. Gertrude was a 50-year
member of the Wilder Charity Rebekah Lodge and was also a
member of the First Christian Church.
May God's blessing be given to her many friends and her loving
family. Survivors include a son, Robert,
and his wife, Berniece Skinner of Caldwell; two
granddaughters, and their husbands, Trudy Eiguren and Jane
Stocking; a great-granddaughter, Kristine Marie Stocking, all
of Boise; two sisters, Edith Eikemeir and husband, Earl of
Pipestone, Minn., and Mildred Barkes of Indianapolis; and many
nieces and nephews. Her family suggests
memorials be made to the Caldwell United Methodist Church
Scholarship Fund, 824 Logan, Caldwell, Idaho 83605.
Friends may call today until 8 p.m., and Thursday from 9 until
11:30 a.m. at the Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. |
