Leland Schomburg

    Leland C. Schomburg, 84 of Nampa, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at a Nampa hospital. A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m., Sunday, June 20, 1999, at Persons Funeral Chapel, Nampa. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., June 21, 1999, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Nampa. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nampa.
    Leland was born on January 5, 1915, in Banks, Oregon to Charles A. and Cecile Rafferty Schomburg.  The family moved from Banks to Nampa when Leland was a child.  He attended elementary at Lone Star School and graduated from Nampa High School in the class of 1932.  After high school he attended the Institute of Business in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Leland married Anna E. Luque on June 1, 1940 in Nampa.  They recently celebrated Weir fifty-ninth wedding anniversary.  Leland was proud to serve in the Pacific Theatre with the United States Army in World War II.
    He worked several years at Carnation Company and Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph.  Leland worked at the U.S. Post Office as a city postman and a rural carrier for thirty-six years.  He received several awards for meritorious service during his postal career.  He retired in 1976.
    Leland was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.  He was very active in the St. Paul's School P.T.A. in the 1950's.  He was a member of the American Legion, Joseph H. Murray Post # 18, and a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. "Elks" #1389, Nampa.  He was also a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and a long time board member of Quinco Credit Union.
    Leland loved gardening, telling old war stories, and talking about Idaho history to whoever would listen.  Over the past year he enjoyed watching his baby great-granddaughters play and grow.  He will be missed by everyone. Our memories of him are of a great man.
    Survivors include his wife, Anna E. Schomburg; two sons, C.L. (Chick) and Sandra Schomburg of Nampa, Richard and Beth Schomburg of Spokane, Wash.; four grandchildren, Michelle Schomburg of Nampa, Timothy and Susan Schomburg of Boise, Diana and Scott Newburg, Neil Schomburg all of Spokane, Wash.; two great-granddaughters, Amaya Schomburg, daughter of Timothy, Mikaela Schomburg, daughter of Michelle; a great-grandson Newburg, on the way; sister-in-law, Christine Luque; several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, JoAnn Schomburg; and a sister, Lenora Blessinger.
    Friends may call from 1 until 9 p.m., Sunday, June 20, 1999, at Persons Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
