Graveside services for Herbert D. Haan, 95,
of Boise and formerly of Melba, who died Sunday, March 8, in a
Boise hospital, will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Melba
Cemetery. Dr. Fred Knight, pastor of
the Melba Community Baptist Church, will officiate with
military rites by the Melba American Legion Divin-Slonecker
Post No. 126. Friends may meet at the cemetery.
Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Rutan was born Dec. 22, 1891, at
Staplehurst, Neb., to Lawrence A. and Hattie Rutan.
As a young man he moved to Alma, Neb., where he married Nettie
Lyle Faubion April 8, 1917. He
served in the U.S. Army in World War I and was in France at
the time the Armistice was signed.
After the war, they farmed in Wilsonville, Neb., until moving
to Melba in 1934. He farmed there until retiring in
1971. In 1978, they moved to Nampa to make their home.
Mrs. Rutan died in 1983.
Following her death he moved to Meridian to live with his son,
Leonard. He had recently moved to a Boise care center.
He was a member of the Melba Community
Baptist Church and was a charter member of the War Eagle
Barracks No. 459 Veterans of World War I.
He is survived by three sons and their wives, Leonard and
Nancy Rutan of Meridian, Gene and Olla Jane Rutan of Nampa and
Russell and Patricia Rutan Of Reynolds Creek; four sisters,
Hattie Cuckler of Hutchinson, Kan., Mabel Medinger of Alma,
Helen Lowe of Hinton, Okla., and Pearle Woods of Hastings,
Neb.; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and eight
great-great grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by a son, Francis; a brother and seven
sisters. Friends may call at the Nampa
Alsip chapel today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m.
to 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to
the Melba Community Baptist Church memorial fund, Melba 83641;
the Idaho Youth Ranch, P.O. Box 534, Rupert 83350; or flowers
