different dates shown in the obituary and on the headstone. Death
year of 1939 would be correct because of publication year shown in
the newspaper.

CHILD DIES IN BURNING HOME
Father is Injured As Kerosene Can Explodes |
Barbara
Clair Coder, five is dead and her father H. F. Coder, a
Greenleaf farmer is at the Caldwell sanitarium suffering from
severe burns he sustained Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock,
when a can of kerosene exploded in his hand, while he was
attempting to start a fire in the kitchen stove. Coder
and little Barbara were in the kitchen alone at the time the
accident occurred. Mrs. Coder, with the
other two children were in an adjoining room, when hearing the
explosion she opened the door leading to the kitchen, but was
forced back on account of the smoke and fumes.
Wife Rescues Pair Mrs.
Coder broke a window pane in the room and crawled through that
to gain outside entrance to the kitchen door. She
succeeded in rescuing Mr. Coder and Barbara. Part of the
house was badly burned but most of the furniture was saved by
neighbors who came to assist. Mr. Coder
and Barbara were brought to the Caldwell sanitarium in an
ambulance soon after the tragic accident occurred.
Barbara lived about two hours after their arrival. Coder
is still in a serious condition, but chances are favorable for
his recovery, it was stated today.
Born In Nebraska
Barbara Clair Coder, was born at Elwood, Neb., on June 29,
1933. The family came to the Greenleaf community about
four years ago locating on a farm about two miles southwest of
town. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Peckham Chapel with
Rev. Milo Ross of Greenleaf in charge of the services.
Burial will be in the Greenleaf cemetery.
Survivors besides the parents are two sisters, Joan and Norma. |
