Rosary for Antonio Quilantan, 76, of
Nampa, who died Friday, Feb. 28, in a Boise hospital, will be
recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Flahiff Funeral Chapel of
Nampa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe
Catholic Church, Nampa, by the Rev. Henry Carmona.
Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Quilantan was born Jan. 27, 1910, at San Rafael, Nuevo
Leon, Mexico, a son of Bernardino and Maria Quilantan.
He was reared at San Luis Potosi. As a young boy, he
lived through the Revolutionary War in Mexico, often risking
death trying to get food and drink to the campesinos hiding in
the mountains.
He married Maria
Ascension Garcia Jan. 17, 1931, at Villa de la Paz, San Luis
Potosi. They made their home in that area and he worked
in the silver mines of the region.
They
moved to Monterrey, Mexico. in 1943, and from there immigrated
to the United States in December 1944, with four small
daughters. They settled in Mission, Texas, and he worked
as a farm laborer.
From 1953 to 1959.
when they settled in Rupert, he worked as a migrant farm
laborer. He retired in 1970 and they moved to Nampa in
1981.
He firmly encouraged education
for all his children and was fortunate enough to have had
several of them become college graduates. He always
stressed to them respect for justice and for the rights of
others.
He was a member of the Catholic
Church.
He is survived by his wife of
Nampa: four sons, Alejandro, Francisco and Ricardo, all of
Nampa, and Antonio, Jr., of Rupert; seven daughters, Amada Q.
Perez and Maria Q. Garcia, both of Rupert, Consuelo Quilantan
of Nampa, Ana Maria Q. Hawley of Phoenix, Ariz., Aurora
Quilantan and Juanita Q. Ramirez, both of San Antonio, Texas,
and Rosa Q. Rodriguez of Idaho Falls; two brothers, Bartolo
Quilantan of Rupert, and Sotero Quilantan of Nashville, Tenn.;
two sisters, Julia Tristan of Matehuala, Mexico, and Martina
Rodriguez of Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico; sixteen grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews.
He was
preceded in death by his parents, two sons, one daughter and
two brothers. |
