Services for Mabel Fannie Prickett,
100 years, Caldwell, ID, who died at Caldwell Care Center
Wednesday, Feb. 2, 1994, will be held at Flahiff Funeral
Chapel, Caldwell, on Saturday, Feb. 5, 1994, at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at the Middleton Cemetery.
Mable Prickett Was born Jan. 1, 1894, at Goodland, Sherman
County, Kansas, to Mathias and Sarah Lee Hollenbeck. The
family moved when she was a small child to Colorado where she
was educated. She graduated from the 10th grade at
Limon, CO. Mabel was the oldest of three children and
was 13 years of age when the family was struck with typhoid
fever and her mother died. Mabel cared for her father
and brother and sister for a number of years. In 1913
the family moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Mabel was married to Elzie E. Prickett on Aug. 1, 1913, at
Scottsbluff, NE. Born to this Union were 6 children.
They homesteaded at Lyman, NE, in 1924 and raised their family
there. In March 1947 they moved with 2 sons to Idaho.
She and Elzie operated a grocery store in Middleton until the
spring of 1962 when they moved to a home on Hwy. 20 east of
Caldwell. After Mr. Prickett's death in 1962 she
returned to Middleton and made her home there until 1984 when
she moved to Caldwell to be closer to family. After a
fall and broken hip in 1988 and suffering a stroke, Mabel has
resided at the Caldwell Care Center. She was the last
living member of her generation in the Hollenbeck and Prickett
families and had been made Honorary President of the Prickett
family reunions. Her years in Middleton
were in support of the Methodist Church, Middleton Grange,
clubs, quilting and gardening. Her hobbies included a
collection of buttons, cups and saucers, scrap books.
From an early age she attended the Christian Church and became
a member in the early 1930s. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Elzie; two sons, Earl and
Allen; brother, Earl Hollenbeck; and a sister, Grace Logan.
Survivors include four children,
Lawrence Prickett, Lyman, NE, Vena Russell, Sidney, NE, Eugene
Prickett and wife, Mary, Caldwell, ID, and Rachel Harmon and
husband Clinton, Nampa, ID., and daughter-in-law Dorothy
Prickett, Caldwell, ID. She is also survived by 17
grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 26
great-great-grandchildren. The family
suggests memorials to the Boise Christian Childrens Ranch in
Eagle or to your favorite charity.
