Funeral services for Mrs. L. F.
Buffington of Caldwell, who died from injuries sustained in an
automobile-train crash at a Nyssa crossing yesterday morning,
and for Mrs. M. J. Buffington of Payette, until recently of
Caldwell, who was killed instantly in the accident, will be
held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Wilder
Methodist church. The Rev. Ernest Stuchbery, pastor of
the Caldwell Baptist church, will officiate.
Burial will be in the Roswell cemetery. The bodies are
now at the Peckham establishment.
The
toll of dead in the crossing crash rose to five today with the
death of Mrs. Marie Graham, 34, of Payette, who was driving
the car. She died of a skull fracture and internal
injuries in an Ontario hospital just 24 hours after the wreck.
Her son, Eugene Trash, 16, and Marion Kruger, 13, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kruger of Payette, were killed instantly.
Coroners Jury Today
The car sped over the
Union Pacific crossing at Nyssa before a fast freight train,
which crashed into the rear end of it. Malheur County
Coroner R. A. Tacke of Vale called a jury of six men to meet
at 2 p. m. to fix responsibility for the accident.
Laura May Buffington was born at Erie, Pa., exactly 23 years
ago yesterday, the day of her death. She is survived by
her husband, L. F. Buffington; her father, J. C. Besecker of
Pleasant Ridge; a sister, Mrs. C. W. Dean of Roswell; and
three brothers, T., J. Besecker of Caldwell, C. A. Besecker of
Washington, D.C., and John C. Besecker Jr., who resides in
Washington state.
Clara Luella
Buffington was born at John Day, Ore., December 26. She
was 34 years of age. She moved to Wilder in 1920,
married M. J. Buffington of Caldwell that same year, and had
lived here until a short time ago, when her husband got a WPA
weed grant at Payette. She is survived by her husband,
two children, Lola and William; her mother, Mrs. Maggie Bloom;
six brothers, Clyde J. Ford, Jim Ford, Marion Ford, Walter
Ford, Lawson Ford, George Ford; and one sister, Mrs. Viola
