Clyde Pethtel

     Funeral services for Mr. Clyde D. Pethtel, 100, of Nampa, who died Wednesday, April 10, 1991, at a Nampa care center, will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, April 15, at the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.  Burial will follow in the Kohlerlawn Cemetery.
    Clyde was born June 7, 1890, on Warm Springs Avenue in Boise, a son of George M. and Sarah L. Pethtel.  There he attended Hawthorne School until the 4th grade.  He grew up on the ranch his father homesteaded in the Highline community and continued his education.  He married Emma Gertrude Smith in 1908.  They were blessed with four children, Thomas M., Robert V., Gladys, and C. Ray.  Gertrude passed away March 10, 1927.  On May 1, 1929, he married Opal Waybright.  They were blessed with one daughter, Helen.  They have resided on their homestead on Blackcat Road all of their married life.  They were presented with the Century Farm Award this past year which made him very proud.
    He was also a very active member of Grange and was a charter member of Highline Star Grange.
    It was a great joy to him to be able to celebrate his 100th birthday on Idaho's centennial year.  He attributed his long life to determination, hard work and love.
    Survivors include his wife, Opal of Nampa; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Alma V., Nampa, C. Ray and Maude, Meridian; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Gene Wade, Nampa; a son-in-law, David Rea, Nampa; a daughter-in-law, Lillian Pethtel, Kamiah; his half sister, Florence DeBoard, Caldwell; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 28 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas M. and a daughter Gladys Rea.
    Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel from noon until 9 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Monday from 9 am. until noon.
    The family suggest that memorials may be made to the Idaho State Grange, P.O. Box 367, Meridian, ID 83642, or flowers may be sent.
