Services
for Matt Messer, 66, of Nampa, who died Thursday, Dec. 3, at
the Caldwell hospital, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the
Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
The Rev. John Koelsch of St. Mary's Catholic Church of
Caldwell will officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary
Cemetery in Nampa.
He was born
Dec. 9, 1920, at Vananda, Mont., to Phillip and Elizabeth
Zentner Messer. He was reared and educated in Vananda. He
worked on the family farm until 1942, when he entered the
U.S. Army and served during World War II.
He married Nancy E. Miller Feb. 27, 1947, at Elko, Nev., and
they made their home and farmed near Marsing for fifteen
years. They later lived and farmed at Nampa and Caldwell.
They had lived on their present farm for 18 years. He
retired in 1982.
He was a member
of St. Mary's Catholic Church and of the American Legion
Joseph H. Murray Post No. 18 in Nampa.
He is survived by his wife of Nampa; a son, Calvin L. Messer
of Nampa; a stepson, Robert L. Miller of Caldwell; a
stepdaughter, Myrna Graybeal of Spokane, Wash.; two
brothers, Paul Messer of Billings, Mont., Irvin Messer of
Butte, Mont.; three sisters, Barbara Dietz of Laurel, Mont.,
Catherine Wirtz and Lucille Daugherty, both of Billings;
nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded
in death by two brothers, a sister and a grandchild.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Monday and 9 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the
Nampa Flahiff chapel.
