Carl DeVere Mayes

    Carl DeVere Mayes, 78 of Wilder, Idaho, died Wednesday, March 14, 1996, at a Caldwell hospital of natural causes.  Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Parma, Idaho.  Private family prayer will begin at 9 a.m. and Mr. Mayes' family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Relief Society Room at the church.  The funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Conducting will be Bishop Ronald Atkinson of the Parma First Ward.  Dedication of the grave will follow at the Roswell Cemetery.  A luncheon will be provided for family and friends of Carl following the services. Arrangements are under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell.
    Carl was born September 21 1917 in Goshen, Arkansas the son of Ward Harvey Mayes and Rebecca LaBerta Oxford.  He is survived by his wife, Afton Welker Mayes; son Michael Dean Mayes; daughter, Susan Michelle Mayes Wortley and son Greg C. Mayes.  Also surviving are his sister, Clysta Gray of Meridian; fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
    Carl was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Shannon Mayes, daughter of Michael and Nancy Mayes.  Carl wanted to mention to all the people that had made his life so full, that he loves them and appreciates all the kindness shown toward him and his family.  Carl appreciated the loving care that he received from friends over the past few years, especially that of Mike and Sophia Laverty.
