Lucille Marie
"Lu" Smith McShane, 73, of
Nampa, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1992,
at her home. Vigil
services will be celebrated at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at
Persons-Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Nampa. Mass
of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday,
Jan. 16, at St. Paul's
Catholic Church,
Nampa, by the Rev. Father Alfred
Puccinelli, S.M. Burial
will follow at Mount
Calvary
Cemetery,
Nampa.
Lu was born May
29, 1928, in Sioux Falls, So. Dak., to
Boyd F. and Mary Anne Gallup Smith.
She moved with her
family to Watertown,
So. Dak., in 1925 and attended Immaculate Conception
Catholic grade school and Watertown High School.
She attended the
College
of St. Benedict in
St. Josepeh (sic), Minn.
In 1939, she was
employed by KSOO-KELO Radio in
Sioux Falls.
She married Lawrence
W. McShane on June 20, 1940, in
San Diego, Calif. During
World War II, she worked at Herberger's Department Store in
Watertown.
After the war, she
and her husband were stationed at naval air stations in
Long Beach, Calif., Ottumwa, Iowa, and
Jacksonville,
Fla.
They moved to Ontario, Ore.,
in 1948 where she worked for KSRV Radio.
They moved to Nampa in 1953 where she worked at KFXD Radio,
the Boy Scouts of America District Office and then for T.C.
Horton, M.D. She
retired in 1978. She
was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, the Third Order of
Mary, and the Catholic Women's League.
She was a reader and
minister of the Eucharist at
St. Paul's and served on the
Liturgical Commission and on the Religious Board of
Education. Lu was
very active in the Girl Scouts of America in several
different positions since 1959.
She was appointed
commissioner for the Nampa Housing Authority in 1979 by
Mayor Winston Goering. Lu
was a charter member of the Canyon County Historical Society
and recording secretary for three years.
She was also a
charter member of the Nampa Civic Center Auxiliary and was a
member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered in
the Cameo Suite for Breast Care for many years.
Mr. McShane died
August 29, 1991.
Survivors include a son, Patrick McShane of Nampa;
two daughters, Kathleen Mason of Fresno, Calif., and Shannon
Petersen of Tuscon, Ariz.; her mother, Mary Anne Smith of
Nampa; three grandchildren, Rebecca Mason and Michael Mason,
both of Fresno, Calif., and Heidi Peterson of Tuscon, Ariz.
She was
preceded in death by her father, Boyd Smith in 1979.
