Services for Harry Eugene Whiffin, Middleton, will be at
2:30 p.m. Friday at the Methodist church in Middleton. Rev.
N. H. Lines will officiate and interment will be at
Middleton. Peckham-Dakan will have charge.
Whiffin was born at Bedfore, Ia.,
April 18, 1873. He was a horticulturist specializing in
fruit and berries.
He left Iowa when he was 17. The family went to Washington Springs,
S.D., where he taught school. He
came from South Dakota
to Idaho
overland, settling first at Weiser. He married Dorah Riles
at Wilder, April 18, 1898. The two established their home on
Hornet Creek in the Council Valley,
living there for eight years. He taught school for two terms
in that district. In the spring of 1908, he came to
Middleton where he has lived since. He lived on the same
farm for 44 years. Mrs. Whiffin died July 26, 1933 at
Middleton.
Whiffin returned to South Dakota
where he married Edith Whitney at Pierre in 1937. He sold the farm near
Middleton two years ago and moved into the village.
He
was a former deputy county assessor. He attended the
Methodist
Church at Middleton.
Survivors are his wife, of Middleton; four sons, Adrian W.
of Payette; William B., Hamlet H., and Donald, all of
Portland; a daughter Mrs. Hazel F. Peterson, Portland, three
sisters, Mrs. Lena Dillon, Southgate, Calif.; Mrs. Vollie V.
Zink, Boise, and Mrs. Hazel Clark of Salem, Ore.; seven
grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
