Sylvia Ferguson Jones, 89, of Nampa, died on Monday,
November 21, 1994, at a Nampa retirement center. Funeral
services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday November 25,
1994, at the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa. Family members
will officiate. Burial will follow in the Parma Cemetery.
Sylvia Jones was born on March 1, 1905, to Charles and
Josephine Nelson Ferguson at Apple Valley, Idaho. Sylvia
grew up in the Parma area where she attended the Seventh-Day
Adventist Elementary School. She graduated from Gem State
Academy in 1924 and attended the College of Idaho
(Albertson's College) her freshman year, 1924-25. She
attended Walla Walla College in College Place, Wash.,
receiving her associate Degree in Elementary Education. She
taught school in Washington and Idaho until her marriage to
Herman H. Jones, May 22, 1929. Following their marriage she
taught several years for the Scism and Sunnyridge School
Districts in Nampa and received her BA Degree in elementary
Education from Northwest Nazarene College in 1964. Sylvia
continued teaching until her retirement in 1971.
Sylvia was very devoted to her family and was a loving wife,
mother and grandmother. She enjoyed vegetable gardening,
raising beautiful flowers and helped extensively with the
family farm.
Her church family was a large part of her life. She was
involved in music, teaching youth and serving as an elder.
Her whole life was centered around sharing and caring for
others in her church and community.
She is survived by her husband, Herman H. Jones of Nampa; a
daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Charles Brown of
Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada; a son and
daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sharon Jones of Hermiston, OR;
and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert at
age four, four brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel today until 9
p.m. and on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
