WILDER - Services
for Rex E. Lefler, 76, of Box 555, Wilder, who died Tuesday
evening in a Caldwell hospital, will be conducted at Dakan
Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Friday by the Rev. J. J. Fleming of
the United Methodist Church.
Interment will be at
Wilder
Cemetery.
Mr. Lefler was
born Aug. 13, 1895, in
Blandinsville, Ill.,
and began working in his youth as a messenger boy in Chicago for the Sante Fe Railroad.
He attended night
school at La Salle University.
He was transferred
to the Burlington Railroad as a telegrapher and later worked
for both the Northern Pacific and Oregon Short Line
Railroads, the latter now the Union Pacific Railroad.
He was stationed
in Weiser in 1915. He
married Ruth Helen Dyer April 28, 1917 in Gooding.
He was later station
agent and telegrapher for the Union Pacific Railroad until
he retired in 1957. He
continued working after his retirement in stations from
Cokeville, Wyo.,
to Spokane, Wash. He
operated an income tax office in Wilder until 1969, when he
retired because of ill health.
He was
secretary-treasurer of the Wilder Cemetary District for the
past 25 years, was past president of the Wilder Chamber of
Commerce, was a member of the Railroad Telegraphers and the
Old Timers Club. He
attended the United
Methodist
Church.
Surviving, in
addition to Mrs. Lefler are a son, William G. Lefler of
Royal City, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Carl (Betty)
Swigert of Wilder, Mrs. Robert (Jeanne) Brown of Nampa, and
Mrs. George (Helen) Brower of Spokane; two brothers, four
sisters, 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be
sent to the Idaho Youth Ranch or the Heart Fund. Friends may
call at Dakan Chapel Thursday evening.
