HOMEPAGE

Miriam Knight

Miriam Grace Knight, 67, of Nampa, died on Thursday, Feb. 24, 1994, at her home from cancer.  Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 1994, at the College Church of the Nazarene, 504 E. Dewey Ave., Nampa.  Dr. B. Edgar Johnson, associate pastor of the church will officiate, assisted by Rev. Earl Darden.  Burial will follow at the Greenleaf Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
Miriam Grace Knight was born on April 24, 1926, at Burr Oak, Kansas, the daughter of Dale and Alice Gossard.  She received her early education in Kansas and Idaho, graduating from Greenleaf Friends Academy.  In 1945 she married Fred W. Knight, who at that time was principal of the Greenleaf Friends Academy, and until three years ago had been actively involved in the field of education.
For many years Miriam was the circulation librarian at Northwest Nazarene College.  Among her duties was the training and supervision of student assistants in the library.  She was always thoughtful and caring of her students, yet knew how to be firm when need be.  She loved and respected her students and they returned that love and respect to her.  To many of them she was their NNC "Mom."
She was an active church member, involved in Sunday school teaching, various committees and boards, and especially in music.  In her early married life she had been a member of the Quaker Hour ladies trio, which ministered regularly over a radio broadcast.  All of her married life she and her husband, Fred, had been involved as part-time ministers of music and lay pastors for various denominations.  She was a gracious hostess and gourmet cook who loved to entertain various church and college groups as well as friends and family.  A deep love for people, coupled with a beautiful smile and a "keen sense of the appropriate" made her loved by all.
Miriam is survived by her husband, Fred of Nampa; a daughter Barbara and her husband Bill Childs of Ft. Worth, Texas; a daughter Joyce and her husband Mike Plaisance of Terrace Lakes, CA; a son Dick and his wife Linda of Boise; a sister Lois and her husband Cecil Binford of Nampa; a sister-in-law Ethel Gossard of Council, ID; and five grandchildren, Daveen and her husband, Ray, Danielle, Joy and Zachary.  She leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn her passing.  However, for Miriam "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Mac and a granddaughter, Stephanie.
The family will greet friends at the Alsip Funeral Chapel today from 2 to 4 p.m.  Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel today from 1 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 9 a.m. to noon.
The family suggests memorials to the Greenleaf Friends Academy, 20535 N. Academy Road, Greenleaf, ID 83626 or to Northwest Nazarene College, 623 Holly St., Nampa 83686.
