HOMEPAGE

Lena C. Knutson

Lena C. Knutson, 82, of Nampa, died Thursday, in a Caldwell care center of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, January 20, 1997, in the Alden-Waggoner Chapel.  Pastor Venture Coy, a family member, will officiate.  Graveside services will follow at 12 p.m. in the Parma Cemetery, Parma.
Lena was born on September 22, 1914, in Ripley, Oklahoma, the daughter of Oatis and Fern Skinner Nugent.  She moved with her family at a very early age to the Twin Falls area where her family farmed.  They came to the Treasure Valley in 1926, settling in the Parma area.  In 1936, Lena married Don McFarland and they lived in Stibnite where he worked in the mine, and later in Kellogg and Wallace, where he also worked in the mines.  In 1946 they moved their family to Payette, where Mr. McFarland ran a milk route.  They were later divorced and she moved the family to Caldwell, in 1953.  She was a single parent raising her family alone, so she went to work as a meat wrapper for the Safeway Foods Store in Caldwell.  In 1958 Lena married Robert Knutson and they continued to reside in Nampa.  They enjoyed traveling very much.  They also were later divorced.
She is survived by her children, Jerry McFarland and his wife Ann, of Meridian, Bruce McFarland Sr., and Joyce Mallea, both of Nampa; two step-daughters, Roberta Eldridge and her husband, Dave, and Mary Houston; her brothers and sisters, Audrey Sparks and her husband Ray, Geneath Sparks, Ellen Codr and her husband Tom, Betty Lawrence and her husband Roy, Joanne Burley and her husband Roger, Keith Nugent and his wife Birtie, Gale Nugent and his wife Janie, Lyle Nugent and his wife Dorothy, and Lillian Kline; thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by one sister, Opal Meeder.
