Rosary devotions
for Howard Lawlis, 89, of Nampa, who died Monday, Aug. 20,
in a Nampa hospital, will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday
in the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
Services will be
conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Alsip Funeral Chapel
with the Rev. Merle J. Fisher, S.M., of St. Paul's Catholic
Church, officiating. Interment
will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery,
Nampa.
Mr. Lawlis was
born Sept. 12, 1894, in
Holdrege, Neb. At
an early age, he moved with his family to the Nampa-Melba
area where he was reared and at-tended schools.
He moved to Reynolds
Creek as a young man and worked on many ranches as a farmer
and rancher. He
served in France during World War I in the
U.S. Army.
He
married Marguerite Balse May 3, 1919, in
Bordeaux, France. They just celebrated their
65th wedding anniversary this year.
They returned to
Reynolds Creek after the war and continued to ranch.
In 1937 they moved
to Nampa where he farmed until his retirement in
1960. Mrs. Lawlis
died July 27, 1984.
He was a member of St. Paul's
Catholic Church in
Nampa
and the Veterans of World War I.
He is survived by
a son and daughter-in-law, David and Evelyn Lawlis of
Concord, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Ed
Thiel of Kuna; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Clara Lawlis of
Nampa; one brother, Clifford Chase of Tacoma, Wash.; 13
grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded
in death by his wife; a son, George R. Lawlis; an infant
son, Charles; a grandson, Ron Thiel; and a great-grandson,
Kreig Harris.
