Charles Laughlin

    Charles D. Laughlin Sr., 91, of Melba, died Monday, June 23, 1997, at a Nampa care center.  Services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 26, at the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa. Burial will follow in the Melba Cemetery.
    Charles was born Feb. 12, 1906, in Indiana Territory, Okla., to James I. and George Etta Simpkins Laughlin.  He was reared and educated in Oklahoma.  He worked in the naval shipyards, the merchant marines and in a tire store before moving to Idaho to work for a short time as a sheepherder.
    On May 25, 1945, he married Joy Brannon at Yuma, Ariz., and returned to Idaho where they made their home on their own island in the Snake River near Melba.  Charles farmed until 1980 when he retired.
    Joy passed away in 1990, and he married Nettie Black on Feb. 21, 1993, at Elko, Nev.
    Charles was an avid rock hound and was a member of the Owyhee Gem and Mineral Society.  He was also a member of the Melba Odd Fellows and the Melba Valley Senior Citizens.
    He is survived by his wife, Nettie of Melba; a daughter and son-in-law, Wynona and Steve Glauner of Hagerman; a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Nancy Laughlin of Caldwell; a brother, William Laughlin of Ada, Okla.; two sisters, Cleo Emerson of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Wilma Turner of San Gabriel, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
    Besides his wife Joy, he was preceded in death by two sisters.
    Memorials may be made to the Melba Valley Senior Citizens, 115 Base Line Road, Melba 83641.
