Pete Antunes, 86, of Nampa, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014 at a Nampa care facility. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 5:00 P.M. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014 at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at the St. Paul's Catholic Church, Nampa. Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Nampa.
Born to Salso and Jovita Antunes in Torrington, WY, Pete was the youngest son in a family of seven; four boys-Jess, Jessy, Manuel and Pete, and three girls-Lucy, Sandy and Jenny. After losing his parents at a young age, Pete left school to work on the farm to help support the family. In 1948, he married Helen Verona Lopez and began to care for her mother and two sisters. They welcomed their first daughter, Lydia (Reyes) in 1949 and a few years later, the whole family moved to Caldwell, ID. Pete began working for United Iron and Metals in 1952 and they welcomed their second daughter, Lorraine (Barbour) in 1956. He picked up a second job mowing lawns in 1973 and after injuring his back on the job in 1976, he retired from United Iron and Metals. He spent his time hunting, fishing and bowling and continued mowing lawns until he was no longer able to in 2009. He was a member of the Moose Lodge for several years and always enjoyed spending time with friends and family. After losing his wife in 2009, his health began to slowly decline. Pete was a tough old man until his last breath and his family is at peace knowing that he is no longer suffering. Pete joins his wife Helen, two son-in-laws, one grandson, one great granddaughter, his parents and siblings in heaven. He is survived by two daughters, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great-grandson.
