Mrs. Mary Campbell Laid to Rest in Roswell Cemetery
Tuesday Afternoon
Canyon county lost another of its prominent
pioneers when death came late Sunday afternoon to Mrs. Mary
Campbell , at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. McCreight, where
she was cared for during her last illness by Miss Lela
McCreight, R. N. Mrs. Campbell was taken
ill on Tuesday, with one of several gallstone attacks from
which she has suffered, and after a few hours of intense pain
seemed to be improving, until early Saturday morning, when she
had a relapse and steadily grew worse until the end came at
4:30 p. m., Sunday. Mary Angelia Dodds
was born August 16, 1863, at Tranquility, Adams county, Ohio.
She grew to womanhood there and later moved to Illinois.
On October 30, 1889, she was married to Byron M. Campbell.
To this union five children were born; Mrs. Lee Fisk, Parma;
Mrs. A. B. Willis, Hagerman; Mrs. Ruth Allen, Boise; and J. W.
and D. D. Campbell, of Lewiston. In 1891
the family migrated to Iowa where they lived until March,
1906, when they moved to Idaho, making their home on the
Roswell bench until Mr. Campbell's death, which occurred
January 29th, 1922. Surviving Mrs.
Campbell are her children, eight grandchildren, a niece, Mrs.
H. C. Baldrige, a nephew, Mr. Ellis McCreight. Mrs.
Campbell passed away at the latter's home on Sunday, January
5th. In early life Mrs. Campbell united
with the United Presbyterian church, but on moving to Roswell
became a member of the Presbyterian church, in which her last
rites were conducted by Rev. O. P. Lawrence, a former pastor
now living in Caldwell, and the Rev. Fred H. Hall, of the
Parma Community church. Funeral services
were conducted in the Roswell Presbyterian church, Tuesday
afternoon, with Rev. E. P. Lawrence, of Caldwell, and the Rev.
Fred of Parma, officiating. The music
was furnished by a mixed quartet, consisting of Mrs. Alice
Grosvenor, Miss Mirriam Dilly, Paul and Elton McCormick, with
Mrs. Elton McCormick at the piano.
Pallbearers were Claire Baldridge, Raymond Price, James
McCreight, Clint Allen, Blake Lowell and Ernest Fisk.
Interment was in the family plot in the Roswell cemetery. |
